Driving in main oil seal (behind flywheel, help!!!)
Ok, whats the safest (or easiest) way to drive in the rear main oil seal? I already put in the front main seal (near oilpump), but this one's giving me trouble going in. Thanx. (Oh, and I did do a search, but nothing as far as driving in the seal came up).
A rear main seal tool, get one at your honda dealer...unless you can find a socket as big in diameter as the seal. Then you just place the socker over the seal and tap it in with a hammer.
Yeah, I have a cheapo haynes manual and it says to use a 1/2" extension and "tap" the seal inplace, looks easy enough - but I'm gonna try the rubber-mallot idea. I was thinking of getting a socket-big enough, but damn. Das a big socket!!! Thanx ppl. I'll let u know how it plays out.

is the motor out of the car??
well since it is out of the car, us a 2x4 piece of wood and a ruber mallet. Place the wood flat on the seal the long way(flat side not the butt end of it.) Then tap it with a rubber mallet. Turn the wood block around the seal several different angles so that it drives in evenly... tap twice, then turn the wood a little, tap it twice, then turn the wood some more... keep repeating until it is flush with the surface. Then you should have no problem with it touching the flywheel, and if you are patient and don't hammer it too hard, you will not ruin your seal.
good luck!!
