HELP! axle wont come out and the end is MUSHROOMED!
Ok, this damn axle will no pop out for the life of me....hammer, hub puller, pulling, prying, etc etc.
I'll keep working at it, hoping it will eventually pop. Any tips or ideas?
but i mushroomed the axle bolt a little bit. just a TINY bit, enough to make it not fit in the nut. Is it ok to just file it down a bit?

Ok them i am assuming you are trying to get it out of the hub right? PB Blaser in there. Make sure you have everything off that you need off so you can get it out correctly.
If it's mushroomed and you can't get it off, take a file to it if you don't need to re-use it. Can you turn in a filed axle as a core for the lifetimers at Autozone?
So your saying the axle won't come out of the hub or the axle won't come out of the tranny side?
reguardless.. keep prying and hammering.. if you haft to next time go buy a damn 8lb rubber mallet so you don't haft to worry about the axle getting fucked.
goodluck.

This is why you use a wood block and not just hammer right on metal parts
If you file or sand the mushroom part off you should be fine, if its not bad I dont see why you cant reuse it. Its just a little part where the threads go as long as its not to them I dont see a proplem.

Eww no fun. Had a d-series get stuck one time. Had to literally tear the axle apart(disassemble) and then took a propane torch and heated up the axle and pounded that sucker out with a 5 pound sledge. If it's mushroomed too bad other than cutting the material that is mushroomed away or grinding it off you don't have much of a choice. Won't be reusable if you grind or cut.

Die grinde a chanfer on the edge at an angle. Many times you can still catch the threads.
And whoever said PB was right on the money. That **** works miracles like the hand of god.

heh if you try to take it back to autozone, sand it down and get it dirty again, just so that the cashier won't give u a hard time. Using an axle with a slightly filed down tip isn't going to hurt anything though.
I still can't get that sucker out. Broke 2 ratchets (breaker bar), 1 log, 1 block O' wood.
it wont budge, ive tried it ALL. literally. the only thing left is to go get a 8lb hammer and torch the bolt, then hammer it out.
any tips on torching it?

I also vouche for PB. That **** will break any joint loose given enough time. I had an old exhaust manifold with an O2 rusted in. I managed to finally get it loose after keeping PB on it for a few hours. PB =
took a propane torch, heated the axle bolt area. got it REAL HOT. then hammered, pryed, and pulled. it eventually gave and popped out.

I cut my stock d-series long axle in half and they accepted it as two b-series cores.

USE A PUNCH NEXT TIME HOMAY.
STIK DAT **** IN DA HOLE AND HIT IT.
if a lil bit of the hole is still there then use a punch and big *** hammer and keep trying if worst comes to worst. pull the whole hub out. hit the cv joint so that the (axle gets pushed in the opposite direction of taking it out) axles goes back in. get wut im saying kinda. like the mushroom part of the axle would be exposed cut it or shave it off. and then hit the axle through. dont ask how i know
