Default problem with n/a b18c

ok guys, i'm having some what of a dilemma.

first, here is my setup in a nut shell. jdm b18c1, s2s2 cams, ctr pistons. stock ecu. i also have omnipower valvetrain, with there flat faced valves. stock headgasket.

whenever you floor it, it sputters very bad, and falls on its face at 5k. half throttle it'll go fine, but at about 5k (the whole tone, and feel of the motor) is different. now its not my daily driver, and am waiting to get it tuned.

i am having skunk 2 cam gears put on. so stock timing. i've been saying its the pistons, and tuning, but i need to know if thats normal for untuned. the guy who did the work has no clue, not a tuner, and he his lost and feels bad. appreciate any comments guys, but please only constructive stuff.
