Car Does nothing when I put it in Gear??
I have a 97 Civic HX (with CVT)
Whenever I put my car into gear it does nothing... the car just has an irratic rev... it revs up then down up down up down.
It does this in All gears. Anyone know what the hell is wrong?

hmm sounds like that could be it? I gotta check it out when I have some time. Stupid things throwing a CEL but I don't have money to go rent one from Autozone or Kragen.

slide under your car with a flashlight and look a the sides of the transmission where the CV shaft goes, if you can see the splines at all then the axle is not properly installed; there is a small clip at the end of the cv shaft which prevents slippage(could be missing?). However this doesn't sound like axle malfunction, then again i've never messed wtih auto trannys.

CVT = funky belt driven tranny that varies driveline ratios in a linear fashion instead of shifting gears, dont know a whole lot about em but I have heard they are very fragile.

cvt is electronically controlled by a computer.
had a subaru with ecvt, the ecu was bad, and made the car not drive in any gear.
could be the ecu for the cvt.

I think the CVTs have a small clutch system attached to the final drive in order to have a nuetral, maybe it is bad?
As stated earlier, could be the ECU too.
