LS/Vtec is more than just the head.

I say rebuild the head you have, put some nice cams in with a good valve train. Port and polish the head, match port the intake and TB and you will be fine.

If you have the time, and the money do get it done RIGHT... go for the lsvtec, but don't expect anything amazing out of it stock. It will, however, feel awesome compared to your ls.

build the LS!!!!!!

Can ya tell i drive an LS

Anyways the LS Vtec takes quite a bit of time and mooney to do it right. Search will be your best friend to do it right. You will need the head and everything attached to it(i am 99%sure you current header will be fine) the golden eagle oil kit. Either a Vtec controler or a Vtec ECU(am i correct on the ecu part?) Timing belt water pump, maybe the oil pump.....etc the list goes on and on. I looked into doing it for a while but now i am gonna run my LS till she blows then it is onto a full GSR motor

90k is when they say to swap the belt out.

Was it an OEM or aftermarket belt?

I personally think the best idea would be to find another longblock (perferably a B20) and then use the spare B18 shortblock as a starting point for an LSV or turbo project.

If your on the cheap, go to your local auto parts store and buy a cheapy Haynes or Chiltons manual for like $12. It will give you a step by step on removing your head, then take it down to your local machine shop. Have them check the valves and replace any bent ones. While your head is off, take a look at the top of your pistons, make sure they look ok. Then pick up your head and reinstall. That easy man. If you had a few bucks, you could have them do a 3 angle valve job and install some aftermarket valvesprings. Then in the future if you want to upgrade your cams, you will be all set.

Or maybe you install it incorrectly.

Remember, never pry a belt into position with hard object, that will tear the belt apart and it won't last long.

I just did the LS/Vtec conversion cause the same thing happened to me....driving along minding my business when the belt snapped and bent my valves. I got everything done including ALL the parts for around 2500. I replaced/bought the following:

GSR head
water pump
timing belt
head rebuild kit (it was a used head and I didn't wanna take the chance)
Block guard
Vtec Dizzy
Z10 Vtec conversion kit
Throttle cable (that I had to mod anyway)
intake gasket
exhaust gasket
Short Ram intake
GSR intake
VAFC2
P28 (chipped)
OBD2a-OB1 conversion harness

I'm probably forgetting a couple things, but you get the idea. Do I like it....hell yeah. Would I have done it differently...probably would have also done the whole bottom end if I had to do it over again. It pulls a little harder and climbs a lot faster in the RPM's when VTEC hits. My gas mileage went down a lil bit (like 80 less per tank or so)

If you think you'll spend upwards of $2000 on an ls/vtec conversion, I'd say that's not money well spent. For less than that you could have a GSR long block from hmotorsonline and have a good solid motor to build upon without all the conversion complications and machine work that'll need to be done. Ls/vtec will never be as reliable as OEM Honda...but I guess it depends on how important longevity is to you. Just my $.02.
