Default debating on what intake for my 01 GSR

Hey people, I'm wondering what sort of results you guys have had with different types of intakes for GSRs. Mine's an 01. Is there really much difference between a short ram w/ a heat shield and a CAI? I know the cold air is better for compression, but with a head shield, wouldn't a short ram be just as effective?

Also, if I go with a CAI, is it worth investing in those AEM intakes with the valve that shuts off the main filter and then takes air in through the engine bay with that smaller filter to prevent water blocking? I don't know anyone who has one of these and want to know how well they actually work. Otherwise I'm just gonna get an Apex or Injen intake.

Thanks a lot for your help. Garrrr I'm really looking forward to getting rid of that 'n00b' avatar.

id say if u drive ur car a lot or everyday and the car is really slammed to the ground, where the place gets a lot of rain, then id recommend the aem with bypass just to be on the safe place...but then again for the aem to get the water, the intake has to be submerged in the water not unless u really hit a deep puddle...i would say just stick with aem with bypass so u have nothing to worry about...

same results as any other intake out there. $25 compared to aem's $200 crap, your just buying the name. Its a filter on a stick and if you think that your gonna feel the difference between one intake from another, your probably stupid.

i'd say go with a short ram that is 3''+ in diameter & a GOOD filter.

from my experiences... the small diameter intake piping and a cheap ebay filter=engine sufficating for air at 7000rpm+

even the stock filter and arm, with the top open performs way better than a $25 ebay intake kit.

Yeah, kinda leaning towards the injen...

I had an injen CAI on my 95 RS, and it was excellent. My GSR is just the stock air box w/ a comptech filter in it now, but I do want to get a real intake, plus the k&n filters are so easy to clean.

Only thing is, even though it's not super rainy where I'm at (between norcal and socal, east bay area and near the Glendora mtn. range respectively for school), when it rains, it raaaiiiiiinnnnsss. So yeah. That's kinda why I'm considering the AEM w/ bypass valve.

just buy a comptech ice box and a k&n drop in filter...you can use the stock intake arm. Its the safest/best thing out although, it is a little more costly. I've driven through a 2 ft puddle and suprisingly, i didnt hydrolock. Pulled over to check the filter, completely dry!

If you want the cool sound and 1/2 to 1hp gains, just get any of the intakes above. but i would just go with a cheap o ebay intake.

I'ma look into it for sure. How much did you spend on your manifold and short ram? I'm scouting for a good deal.

I think during a dyno test the Mugen made the most power or maybe it was the whale dick J's.

I would just get a comptech icebox. I have an AEM CAI and I am tiring of the whistling and the slow throttle response. I'm going to just get the icebox once I get a new IM.
