Another tranny/clutch question question 3rd and 4th scratch
Still not sure of my problem after some searching.

I have a ZC DOHC, black top. I think it does not have a vacuume dissy. Transmission, I am not for sure which one I have only know the clutch is cable. Supposedly some sort of NOPI clutch. I know the clutch grabs like a *****. 1-2 shift can break the tires loose without getting back on the gas.
Shifting into third or forth always grinds unless you let it drop to nearly idle. (Below 2kish) If you put it in gear, back to neutral, then back in gear it does not scratch. 2-3 scratches, 3-4 scratches, 4-3 scratches.
Haven't figured out the clutch adjustment yet either. I thought tighter (screwing the nut down towards the ground) would make it easier to shift. Right now though it starts to grab just above the floor (very low in the travel.) I tried going closer to the gound with the nut and it would not even go into gear with the clutch pressed. I will try to go looser tonight and see if that helps. Stays in gear no problem, but grinds going into 3rd or 4th. Grind is worse at higher rpms.
I want to try to fix whatever is wrong with it myself.
And on a note from this newb, I am extremely impressed with the little motor. Through first and second, pulling almost to 8k (no idea what redline is) it is a little monster. This is coming from a v8 muscle car guy.

you can try changing the fluid. did you get the car like that? sometimes that is a sign of a failing pressure plate or worn clutch. double clutching will definately help not to grind. just take it easy til you can find another tranny.
Ya, just got the car.
Basically when I test drove it I dogged on 1st and 2nd. But it was in town so I couldn't run it up fast enough to do much hard shifting on 3 & 4.

Clutch is supposed to be new, wonder if the pressure plate was changed though....

well chances are it's the synchro's going bad.. i.e. someone ragged on it before selling it. it's a pretty common problem with these trannies though, start looking around for one soon.
Got some of the GM stuff everyone raves about. I figure it can't hurt. Ill report back on if that helps or not.
Now just have to decide which car to take to the track. Haven't ran the Camaro since the cam, but the rex feels like a quick little bugger.

I think I will visit one this weekend.
I found the drain plug on the transmission. Where do you fill it from. Only guess I have is there is an electrical sensor on the top. Unscrew that?
Transmission has a sticker. Says ls3 002.... sormithing 024... I think
The motor/tranny mount on that side was loose. The threads were stripped on the portion attatched to the tranny. That would explain the jerkyness from a stop if you don't let out easy on the clutch. Also the (torque??) mounts ones on the front and back, looked and felt worn out. Time for energy stuff?

the fill plug is located on the side to the left of the inner cv joint if you are looking at the joint, it's a 17mm head. takes a little more than 2qts. also if you adjust your cable so it is tight and has no play a it will grab a little high but will shift nice. the more play you give the cable the lower the pedal will be.
