picking up first integra this weekend. what should i look for?
i am picking up my first integra this weekend. a 91 ls with an auto trans. the car is mostly stock from what i am told. any problem areas i should be aware of when i go looking at the car? the seller also has all the parts to swap in a 5 speed transmission. how hard of a swap is that? i am thinking about slapping on a turbo after i swap in the 5 speed. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you going to buy the parts off of him and try to do it yourself? I wouldnt deal with all that especially since it sounds like you dont know how to do it... if you really want a 5-speed just wait a little longer and search for a 5-speed. Iits probably not worth hassle, money, and risking of future problems with the swap. As for looking, CHECK EVERYTHING, but mainly the motor is in good condition.

Check the fenders for any bad rust spots.
If it leaks or burns any oil, and how much if it does.
Just check it over real good, and drive it a couple times.

the fact that he doesnt know how to do the swap has no bearing on whether or not he should try it. everyone had to start somewhere. i did something similar to my first car. i picked up a crx and within a few weeks i was ripping a motor out of it. the only wasy to learn is to do it. yeah, it may take hima while but its not gonna hurt anything. hell, hes gonna have a much better understanding of the layout of the engine bay, the mechanics of a transmission, how to replace a clutch, axels, ect.
i dont see the fun in buying something that already has what you want done to it. i mean if he wants a 5spd and all the parts are there, then whats the problem? granted he has alot of research to do. but, if hes planning on boosting this car, he better start with something thats not quite as involved. there are soooo many different little things about turboing a vehicle that most people dont even know about.
my opinion is go for it. if the cars in good shape its not worth passing up. theres really not that many clean integras now-a-days. good luck. welcome to the wonderful, horrible world of hondas...

1st problem: it's automatic
1st problem: it's automatic
got that right, your first problem is that the car is an automatic man and if you are planning to swap a 5 speed and install turbo, man you are going to have to do alot of work! good luck though! otherwise i think its a bad idea to go for it! besides there are many good integras and hondas out there, you just got to be patient or else you will regret it!

Its going to take a lot more labor and time to do a swap then it would be to hold off and buy a manual in the first place.

i used to be a mechanic for 13 years. so, doing the 5 speed swap is not really a problem and now i build custom turbo kits for car that don't have any available over the counter. so that is also not a problem. this is going to be my play thing. I'll take it to the track and push it really hard. i was just wondering what the weak spots of the car. does it rust in certain areas. does the heater cores go bad allot and how hard are they to replace? how about timing belts when should they be changed? that kinda stuff.
