Default Problem: GC Sleeve will not fit over Koni Yellow Shock Body

Well, after waiting for close to a month for my correct suspension components to arrive, I will soon begin installing my koni yellows with GC's (yes, they are koni specific) on my DC2.

The problem arises when I have attempted a basic construction of the shock/spring in order to gain a better idea of how the combination will need to be installed on the car. For some reason, probably due to my rookie status in suspension installs and near complete confusion with the koni instructions, I cannot seem to fit the GC sleeve over the koni yellow show body.

From my perspective, it seems like the inner diameter of the GC sleeve is just to small to slide completely on the shock body. I can force it on slightly, but since I assume it should not require "forcing" to place the sleeve on the shock and due to fear of getting the sleeve stuck half way on the shock, I cannot seem to get the sleeve more than 5 cm onto the body.

If anyone had a similar experience or helpful insight, your help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if more information is necessary to fully understand the problem I am facing.

Does it start to go on at all? I had a problem wiht one of mine where it seems the paint on the Koni body may been a little thicker then the other 3.

Which GC tubes are you using, the normal adapter tubes with the black metal insert, or the smaller diameter Baby tubes (no adapter)?

I have the baby tubes, and they had quite a bit of clearance between the paint and the tube. I can only imagine the adapter rings are much tighter since they have to keep the sleeve from wobbling...

You may need to sand down the paint some. Give CRX Lee (local Koni rep) a PM and find out what he suggests. I have heard of the paint getting in the way before too.

Thanks for the help guys. I am using sleeves with the black adaptors.

After getting incorrect setups each time I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this problem before I attempted to make them compatible when they had no business being used together (i.e. wrong application, incorrect mixture of parts)

Thanks again

On my GCs, the snap ring collar would not slide over the body of the shock down to the snap ring. I put the collar in the toaster oven at a low temp and put the shock body in the freezer. After about 10 minutes, I pulled the two out (wear gloves!!) and the ring slid down the shock without any problems. Once all the temperatures stabilized, the ring was on good and tight. I only had to do this for my rears. The fronts were tight but they went down with no problems.

^ That's a great idea. Just make sure the collar is sitting perfectly on the snap ring as it cools off. You won't be able to change it without chipping paint once they reach room temp...
