NOOB!
hello all,i just purchased a 91 dx hb straight shift, and i dont know too much about cars...so does anyone know a book or a site or anything that would help me out? i have family members that are into cars and crap but none of them would help me because they say imports are **** haha. anyways i was advised that i could drop an h22 with turbo into my HB? is this possible? i just need to figure all of this out before i go investing my money into nothing..
don't bother with an h22, it's possible but not a good idea, unless its just a drag car or something.
site to help you out? this is a site...
if you need a swap (you know you do, it's a dx)
you would need to rewire your car because it has the crappy dual point fuel injection (dpfi) (like throttle body injection) and all the "good" motors use multipoint fuel injection (mpfi). there are conversion harnesses available, i have heard good things about rywire, though i just usually make things myself.
now, as what engines go into there without having to chop the car up and have more than a quarter inch of road clearance?
d series engines are cheap, and have more power than people think, and boosted can beat b series engines easily if it's tuned right.
any d-series pretty much will drop straight in (avoid d16a1's and d17's, but other than that it's fair game.) for a d series, you'll need an 88-91 d series transmission, and the clutch/flywheels have to match, but there are of course overlaps. search for this info if and when you're ready.
just about any b series will go in, depending on how much you wanna buy. everyone goes b16, but that's because it's some of the best "bang for the buck" of the b series. the cheapest b series is putting in an integra ls motor (b18a_ or b18b_) and later you can throw a b16/gsr head on there and it'll have a little less than 200 horses.
for a b series, you need aftermarket mounts (from a good brand name), shortened shift linkage from a 90-93 integra and pretty much any set of b series axles, as long as they are all one set (including the intermediate shaft)
for any motor you get, you'll need a computer to match it and your wiring modified so it will plug into the engine. engines ~92 and up have a newer style computer, called obd1, and therefore different plugs, meaning another/a different conversion wiring harness.
good luck.
