Default ITR Vs MR2 SPyder

Ok my friend with a MR2 Spyder thinks he can rock me in a straight line and on a track with his car.

I tried explaining why my car would be so much better than his in both circumstances, but he still doesn't belive me.

I did a search and found no comparisons between the two cars (looked through the faq's as well).

Can anyone here comment on this ?

Just to shut him up I told him that yeah i thought the MR2 would be faster in a straight line and better overall around corners.

So any comments ???

MR-S?
has cart like handling ...
Seriously can outhandle an ITR with modded sussy - I've driven one and they are super fun with a great chassis

If its a manual, they should be 190hp (jdm) and are lighter than the ITR so it would be close.

n the US its an MR2, but I don't think we get 190hp, I think we only get 160hp, not sure though.

Funny you should asl though, the used ones are coming down alot, would be fun, but having owned a 91 N/A and 93 with a JDM motor, I can honestly say they are a pain in the *** to work on.

They are light and handle great out of the box, I'd say better than the ITR stock vs stock. Of course there are unlimited possibilities when you speak in terms of modified cars, so the best way to do a comparo is stock vs stock.

In a straight line, they have GSR-like acceleration (for the US model), if the JDM MR-S has 190hp, it would be damn close.

P.S. The Autobacs MR-S is sooo sweet.

Our MR-S's are rated at 140’ish HP. I think you guys are getting the few that have been 2ZZ swapped, (Celica GT-S motor), mixed up.

An R has a better power to weight ratio so it could probably take it in a straight line. In the turns, who knows? I guess it comes down to the driver. The MR-S is an excellent handler though.

My buddy's planning to do a 2ZZ MR-S project soon, should be a blast.

yeah it will be real nice.. i never drove one to compare with the R but theoriotically..
Type R =faster in straight line
MRS = might handle better than type R in Twisty road/circuit. BUT who knows about the lap times??
MRS probably handles better than the R but i think the R is still faster
if the MRS has GT-S motor. it might be faster than caR

Check out Best Motoring Touge Challenge 200 Class sometime. The techno spirit GTS swapped MR-S pretty much ownes everyone, including the Spoon DC2 street car.

Another good one is the N/A vs. Turbo battle. The same MR-S manhandles the Amuse S2000, and several Silvia's pushing 300 + hp.

I've seen that. That MR2 kicked everyone's ***. It was just sick.

The version of the MR2 that we get in the USDM is under powered and under sprung.

Moreover, its chassis design is less resilient with road vagaries and gaters.

The MR2 is a very well balanced car that doesn't have the suspension or power. Not out of the box in USDM, anyway.

My thoughts exactly.

I've driven both and frankly I don't even think the two should be compared.

The MR-S is fun and would probably do awesome at auto-x, but anywhere else would be ITR domination.

Those that think it might be close in a strait line apparently haven't driven an MR-S. Althought it only weighs 2,200lbs the 138hp didn't feel that convincing.

modded, the ITR stands no chance around a corner

MR2 is mid engine rear wheel drive with perfect weight distribution

sotck for stock, the ITR is faster, but theres no competition if the MR2 is modded

a modded MR2 doesnt have much competition in the corners, other than like an exotic

I was speaking with Mr. Hideaki Otaka, President of Toyota Motor North America, in April while I was visiting friends in Louisville. I ran into him by chance at a Taco Bell.

Mr. Otaka mentioned how disappointed he was in the lack of spring rates in the rear of the USDM MR2, as well as the anemic motor they put in it. He also mentioned that the Integra Type R was greater than all.

the mr2 we get here is 138hp and weighs about 2200lbs like stated above. its a very good handling car but hands down the type r would win in every category. if that mr2 came with the gts (180hp) motor than thats a diff story..personally.. my friend owns a mr2 and i know what my car do in a straight line over his..

I've owned both. Type R wins in any acceleration contest. Type R wins any braking contest. Type R wins max G on a skidpad (assuming equal tires). MR2 might win in a slalom.
