car has 100k.. okae to swith to synthetic?

car has 100k.. okae to swith to synthetic?
My friend's car has over 100k and she's had it since it was new. Always been running conventional oil. Is it okae to switch to synthetic, like Mobil 1? I'm afraid that if i do that, it might create a leak somewhere. Is it something i should worry? thanks
