(Code 15) Before I replace Ignitor, check anything else?
The car is a 91 Hatch, the motor is a B18B converted to obd0.
Problem: When the car was bought, the owner told me the IACV was setting off the CEL, and causing the surging idle. I got around to checking it myself, today, and its a Code 15. I believe that is the ignitor. Here are my questions:
1.) Would the ignitor cause hesitation in low RPMs and a surging idle?
2.) What should I check (wires, connections, etc?) before I go and spend cash on a new ignitor or dizzy?
3.) If this is a combination of IACV and Ignitor, would the IACV cause problems without throwing a CEL?
4.) What models of car can I use an ignitor off of and still work with my obd0 B18B? If I can't source one, just use a B18A obd0 dizzy, correct?
5.) Is there a way to clean an IACV w/o replacing it?
6.) How can I check the Ignitor and the IACV to tell if they are good if I source these parts from a wrecked car?

1) A failing ignitor could cause these symptoms
2) Check the wiring at the distributor connectors, as well as the wires inside the distributor
3) In my past experiences, I've had bad IACV's not throw a CEL.
4) Pretty much any ignitor out of any Civic or Integra will work, regardless of OBD. I've used OBD2 ignitors in OBD0 distributors with no problems.
5) You can pull it off the IM, shoot it out with brake cleaner, let it dry out, then reinstall it. Sometimes this does the trick, sometimes not.
6) Physically, there is no real way to tell if the part will be good...50-50 chance.

thanks buddy. got a deal on a good dizzy so I just figured, something will go wrong eventually, might as well get the whole thing.
Next up - IACV. Is it broke? Can -I- fix it? Will I have to become even BROKER because of this car? Only time will tell... muahahahaha
