shocks and struts to fit a 91 civic hatch

thats technically incorrect. in fact, a strut is a type of shock absorber, aka damper, dashpot, whatever. so your statement actually makes no sense.
furthermore, 88-2000 civics do NOT use struts, in the technical association of macpherson strut suspension. honda designed double wishbone suspension instead. the shock absorber is not used to locate the suspension.
very early model civics, and current model civics now use macpherson struts in the front.
btw, you CAN use 92-95 front shocks on a 88-91 if you use the later model forks, which will fit. but i wouldnt recommend it.
