Default Getting a ticket

Are cops unwilling to persue bikes? I only ask because yesterday me and my buddy are on a ride and we get to the top of this hill and bam there is a state patrol with the radar gun out and as soon as i c him i look at my speed and im going 82 and the SL is 65 we're not blatantly speeding this was just the flow of traffic and we were in the "slow" lane and there were still people blowing past us going at least 90+. Well anyway we both know he clocked us and saw us speeding i thought we were caught but all the cop did was wave his arm you know like when your signifying "ahh forget it" Do they not go after bikes cause they are afraid they will run or because they know they probably couldnt catch up. Just curious cause if i was in my gsr i know he would have ticketed me

I'm pretty sure if somebody is blowing past you guys going 90+ he would rather go for them then you guys.

A while back, I was doing about 80 on the freeway. And there was this black lincoln towncar doing about 85ish ahead of me. Then out of nowhere this bike cop pulls right next to my window and I started to slow down. He sped up and pulled over the towncar, I could of easily been pulled over but I guess him coming up next to my window was a sign for me to slow down.

I was thinking this the other day. I was riding doing like 75 in a 55. As i go under a bridge i see a cop at the top of the ramp. I thought i was done. Not only speeding, but only having a permit and on a 4 lane highway.
I kept looking back and he never moved. They really don't use radar its more of the VASCAR thing.
I was thinking why he never came. He was either not set up or just didn't want to bother catching up to me.

In all my driving time I have never seen a bike pulled over.

I have passed a state trooper(not on purpose ) doing 140+ and just kinda kept going, knowing that I would be in jail if I slowed down. Needless to say I didn't get a chase out of him

Most of the time they just dont want to do it...it is the same here in Florida..they aren't supposed to chase unless for a felony stop

My cousin is a NY state trooper and he was telling me that they were told that they "shouldn't" chase after motorcycles but try and get behind them to get the plate and then mail the ticket later. Also if a car breaks 100 mph in a chase they are supposed to stop chasing that car because it is more likely to cause a fatal accident if they chase a bike or a car over that speed than below it. That is why most of the time they aren't going to chase you if you are close to that speed already or on a bike.

Also he talked about a system where it was a mini camera device with a radar gun that just sat there and took the close up pics of the license plates of speeders. He didn't say when they would get these things out but they are kind of like those cameras for the people running red lights at an intersection.

I've seen plenty of bikes pulled over. I do remember one time I was driving up I270 going home one night. Catch up to a state trooper and slow down and trailed him for a couple miles. Next thing you know I see this headlight FLYING up behind me, I thought "oh man, this guy's done for". Fly's by us doing well into the triple digits. Doesn't even phase the cop. He didn't flip the lights, siren, look over, hell I don't even think he blinked. However I know of plenty that gave chase.

I was talking to a guy I know who is a cop, and he said here in Tennessee they won't even try to chase a bike if it's obviously gettin' on it.

a friend of mine here in the chicago area got some first hand experience with those cameras mounted in squad cars. he bolted from a cop that was going to pull him over for speeding at about 10:30 in the morning.

cops took the video from the squad back to the station and showed up. he was forced to turn himself in and is now waiting for his court date.

**** cops showing up on your doorstep

lol, one time, we went riding down pch to new port beach and one of our buddies that a brand new 600rr, bone stock, and he was the only one that got pulled over. First he was last in the pack, second, he didn't have his blinker on.

No insurance, riding at night w/permit, very forgiving cop, no ticket, no impound. Priceless.

well the way that a radar gun works is that the signal it sends out bounces off the largest object in its path. Which means if you just past a semi doing 60 and you are doing 85 then guess what the cop will keep showing 60 on his radar gun cause compaired to a semi you are a flea.

SO im sure he was not unwilling to chase you it just he couldn't really prove you where speeding since he would be unable to clock you (if your riding in traffic) and since you where going with the flow of traffic in the slow lane it is also but totally a no brainer that other cars are going the speed limit and your passing them like their standing still.....

I know a couple of cops. They have said that at 100+ they don't chase bikes at all.

Here in Columbus, after talking with some cops. If you're in a group of 4 or more, they won't chase. They said they don't want 4 bikers going 100+ to run from the cops. I've gone past cops speeding, didn't see them till last moment and nothing happened, but I don't want to keep pushing my luck. If I do see them I slow down to speed limit.

Also, the guy talking about I 270 is that in Columbus? I've met some guys here that ride that call themselves the 200mph club. Most of them I believe ride Hayabusas.

Totally incorrect. Modern radar guns are very advanced and very smart. If the gun would see the bike normally, it will have no problems picking out it's signal if there are other returns and noise. A radar gun will turn the speed of the fastest signal, not the biggest.

I don't know about you guys who get away with speeding right in front of cops. 3 of us were riding on the freeway averaging 80-90 with occasional spurts over 100+. We were cruising over a hill when we reached the top of it, all of a sudden 2 cop cars about 3 miles appeared on the side of the road. We were so far from them we thought we had time to slow down to the speed limit. Pulled us over and I asked one of the troopers how'd their radar can reach us that far. He just pointed in the air and grinned. Damn plane radar patrol. I learned my lesson.

Funny that's not what the irvine cop explained to me last week when he pulled me over (and was unable to ticket me for speeding although he suspected I was but I was to close to thhe dump truck next to me for him to pin point my speed)

He still pulled me over checked made sure my bike wasn't stolen and all those other good things cali cops like to do but in the end I was able to leave unticketed after a bit of small talk... Which I might ad he was sort of cute for a white boy
