Default loud clunk when going over small bumps? how to check ball joints? teg upper arms on a civic??

alright guys I live on gravel road and it has small bumps on it(washboards) and it makes a loud "clunk". I check all the bolts and they are tight. its a 93 si.. so Im thinking maybe ball joints? how do I check them? also on the 93 si the upper ball joints are one peice with the upper arm correct? I have some upper arms from a 97 ls can I just put the ls arms in there? im assuming so if you can put a teggie suspension a civic.. please help.. yes I have searched but all the threads are about how to seperate the ball joint and i know how to do that

just get in there and start shaking things. start with the wheel on the ground, then raise the wheel off the ground and shake holding at 12 and 6 o'clock position and 3 and 9 position. if theres any play, try to isolate it. take the wheel off, grab a fistful of the knuckle and yank. same with tie rods.

also, turn the steering wheel to the left, push up on the passenger tie rod, feel for any play in the steering rack end bushing.
