i have an open cat. and when my friends drive behind me, they sometimes complain, haha. other than that, youll notice a smell at first, then you'll be used to it. it wont stick on your clothes...
You wont considerably notice the smell, unless you have a crazy exhaust leak and the cabin of your car has holes allowing the fumes to come in. The person that will notice the smell the most is the sniffer at you emissions check point.
I havn't had a cat in yrs, and have never really noticed a bad smell. Only time if got smelly was when my header/b-pipe joint leaked, and the gas was coming up into the cabin where the shift linkage enters.

lol..im running with a straight/test piep and man it stinkcs but you get used to it. Just dont sit there for 30 minutes with your car on parked, I swear you will either puke, past out or just get bored! LOL.
words of advice, i gutted my cat (passed emissions with the gutted cat) but youll have bees in your exhaust, its sounds like **** after 2500 rpm+rice=embrassing
a little smelly but like they said, you'll get used to it.
It does hinder performance though. It puts a wide spot in the exhaust flow that then gets choked up hitting the b pipe. You'd be better off getting one of those 20 dollar test pipes off of ebay.

I have a header, and a High Flow Catalytic Converter (Which means there is still SOME some deffening material... But it's still straight threw). I can't smell anything ever, and I think the car sounds damn good.
But, I also have stock exhaust from there back. I'm into the stock look
If you're not looking to spend much, I would recommend purchasing the Megan Cat. I have it on my car... Here is a thread about the install on a different forum, that may aid you in your install... It's not too fun man.

Here is the product from the same seller I purchased mine from
Then again... If you have some extra money, you could go with the Skunk2 Test Pipe... A bit more pricey, but it's HOT **** YO'!!!11!1

****... All of the Exhaust Shops in this town will not TOUCH a car without a Catalytic Converter, let alone make a pipe that will rid an Exhaust System of one.
And this is in North Carolina... They're typically pretty leanient about this kind of ****.

they won't install it, that's illegal, but they have pipe laying around and can make one. Put it in yourself. Also, there is at least one muffler shop in every city that'll break the rules and do it if you ask right
