Deck wont power up, can anyone help?
Well i know why the deck wont power up, the ground and + wires got crossed. they were all snipped at the same time and this is what caused the short. my question is can i fix this. i know there is a short some where on the bored i just have to find it, but where do i start? Any help would be great it is an Alpine CDA-D852. A 1.5 DIN it came out of my jeep. any sugestions would be great. thanks to all.
Shorting the power and ground, [when being cut at the same time] should not do anything to the HU, it should blow the cars fuse, are you sure that you have power on both the red, [acc. fused in incar fusebox] and the yellow, [constant power, fused in the engine bay fuse box] of the Alpine HU, the oem fuse for constant power, [in engine bay fuse box] is only a 7.5A, your HU may need more power, DO NOT install bigger fuse, instead, run a fused 10ga power wire from batt. to behind the HU and connect the yellow wire from the HU to it.

Some alpines actually require alot of power, FCM is right, you may actually need to run a power wire to the head unit. Use a DMM and test the head unit to see if it is getting power first. Then check all of the fuses.
I hooked it directly to a battery on a bech just to test it, i know the deck is the problem i heard it short and saw the deck smoke a little. The car fuses are fine. any other sugestions?
If you love the deck send it in for repairs.... otherwise get a new one. If you know what you are doing simply take the deck apart and I am sure you will see a burn spot on the deck board. Then replace that part on the board.
