I am in the process of getting new ECU for my B16A2. I am not sure if I should go for JDM P73 or convert to OBD1 and get P30 or P28 and chip it. Here is my set up: B16A2 (OBD2b) with I/H/E, nothing special has done to the internals.
Would it be worth getting OBD1 ECu and install a chip and have it tuned or just get JDM P73? I am not really planning on getting aggressive cams maybe Skunk stage 1 or stock P73. Any suggestion would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

 

I suggest you go with the OBD1 P28 for its cost efficiency, and it's ability to retain resale value. A Chipped P28 can be picked up pretty cheap, retuned, etc, and you can still sale it and go Hondata, etc. It's all a question of what you expect to do...

 

thanks. Yeah, my set up is only going to be mild. Meaning with I/H/E plus maybe skunk2 stage 1 cams or stock P73 cams and P73 or Skunk2 intake manifold.

The P30 is just as easilly modified. The JDM P30 is a small ECU as opposed to the long USDM version. JDM P30 is also out of a 92-95 OBD1 SIR with the B16.

 

why do you want a P73 for a B16A2?
The OBD2b version of the B16 ECU is the P2T, the P73 is for the ITR. I know you CAN use it, but it will be more fuel than your engine needs and therefore loose power.

Go with a P30 or P28 and a conversion harness.
The P30 will run the engine fine the way it is, but you can always chip it and tune it so it runs better.
The P28 is cheaper and more available and you can tune it the same as the P30.
