would anyone recommend gutting the cat on stock exhaust? and if so how will it sound

 

Nah just get a test-pipe or high flow cat, gutting it will end up destroying the packing in any muffler you have/get. It destroyed my friends in his 2000 SI.

 

Not true.... i gutted my old cat and nothing happened from it. I drove it for a few thousand miles too. However unless you really have some high compression or a turbo it isn't even really worth it because you don't notice it at all.

 

I would say that if you are going for more power go with a test pipe. But it's a little loud

 

gutted cat = test pipe. not that i recommend it.
a high flow cat is your best solution.

 

Yup. I have a magnaflow high flow cat on my full exhaust and it works like a champ

 

Gutted cat is illegal and i will report you to the authorities . But you sohuld get a high flow cat i think that works the best. It be a little legal and it will be a staright flow.

you clean out the honeycombs on the inside with a long dow rod or screwdriver or something similar
