Wining noise... ...Unorthodox aluminum race pulley... Is this normal?
I'm considerig to this 93 Si Hatch with a very clean B16A swap. The owner said he put on an unorthodox aluminum racin pulley (no P/S, no A/C), and he claims that the loud wining noise was a normal effect from installing the aftermarket pulley. I used to work as a mechanic for a year, and it sounded like an alternator belt that is adjusted too tightly. Is it normal to experience ANY change in the noise after installing one of these pulleys? Thanks.
my friend put one on and it made noise... not as loud as an alternator belt though... its a harmonic balancer which means it balances out the motor to decrease vibration and noise so when you put a super lightweight rAcInG n1 crank pulley thats what happens... total waste of money imo

I put a light weight pulley on my b16 swapped civic with no a/c and no p/s and it doesnt make a weird noise.

This would be my guess also. Try adjusting the belt tension to the proper specs.
I've never experienced any abnormal noises with the UR pulley on my car or my brother's car.

the noise on my friends car didnt sound like an alternator belt... it sounded more like the bearing in the alternator would sound... dry and grainy sounding but not very loud
