Default Time to part out '96 white Integra? Or is it worth saving?

Mechanical
100,000 Miles
Drives Great
Burns 1QT of oil/1100 miles
Rebuilt tranny and new clutch 1 yr ago(feels great, except right after driving S2000)

Suspension
Ground Controls + Tokiko shocks about 50K miles/5 yrs on them

Body
Was in front end collision. Replaced RH fender. Need new front bumper. Have damaged Wings West Big Mouth on now. Bumper will not go all the way back over RH headlight. Some parts underneath will need to be replaced but I'm not sure which. I was planning to go to junkyard for replacements.

LH Door has big (bowling ball sized)dent. Can get good one at local junkyard for $400.

My friend wants to buy car for $3,000(with payments of course...) so he can use the motor/tranny/suspension on his 96 civic(and be able to pass smog!).

Bottom Line
I was guessing that I can get the parts I need for < $1,000 and that a paint job will be another $2,000 easily. I want to have something to drive when it's raining and to carry my mountain bike on and just keep the miles down on the S2000. I kind of figured the car would sell for around $4,000 with all the repairs completed. Does anyone think it makes sense to fix it? Should I be worried about the engine burning a Qt of oil every 1,100 miles? That seems kind of common here...

I was thinking of getting a Tacoma but, they seem to be around $7,500 for something decent with equal age and mileage!!! I'm fine using the trunk rack on the Integra and it's still fun for me to drive so, this is a tough decision...

if its burning oil the motor needs a rebuild... its not up to us... its up to you.. how much do you love your teg?? enough to put some blood and sweat into rebuilding it? or you just wanna part it out and gimmie your front fenders

I've heard of lots of people that burn oil in their teg though. Especially when it gets revved a good amount...

I don't mind spending the $8/3000 miles to replace the burned oil...

So what's the alternative? It seems like any replacement of the same or lesser age is going to cost alot more than $3,000...

By the way. I drive 70 miles a day getting to and from work. It's not like I'll just use it for the bike rack. I do want to avoid racking up the whole 18,000 miles a year on the S2000. And it's nice having a car with decent gas mileage and handling that doesn't require 91 octane...

Any one have an idea on the cost for a decent paint job? Is $2,000 about right?

So what's the next thing I should expect to happen now that I'm burning 1 QT/1,000 miles?

I'm not sure about doing all the body work if the motor is on the way out...

I know other people have the oil burning problems... I'll do the compression and leakdown tests but have other people seen after reaching 1QT/1,000 miles?

Before assuming your oil consumption is due to a bad engine, determine how cleanly your car is running? Will it pass smog with flying colors? I had an Isuzu engine that was putting a little bit of black on the rear of the bumper, and it turned out to be an EGR valve that was stuck closed. I replaced the EGR valve, and the car no longer burned oil or left black soot on the bumper.

As for your paint job, I can get you a good paint job for about $1200-$1500 (three stage) at a shop in either Van Nuys, CA or in Visalia, CA. Send me a p.m. in case I lose track of this thread, if interested.

As what someone said early, it depends on how much you love your Teg. Your problems can be fixed if you really want to keep the car. But if you want to jump ship to the enemy, Toyota, then that's your choice. lol, just kidding.

Personally, I love Acuras and will always own an Acura. I have spent alot of money on repairs on both my Tegs. and at times I want to scream, but for the most part, I'm very proud to be driving an Integra.
Keep the Teg alive

just because it burns oil does not mean the motor is on its way out chances are ist something stupid like valve seals or something

Since you already have an s2000, your teg is just your "beater" now. If someone is offering you $3k as is and your other repair is going to cost $4-5k, then that means this car at its great condition will be worth $7k to $8k. Does that sounds like a fair price?

If you also factor in all the effort and labor and risk involved (i.e. found something that is not fixable mid way). Then is it still worthed?

I would not hold on to a $7k to $8k car just as a bike rack and beater, if someone offer a good price, sell it.
