Default Project: CX Track Car *Updated*

Alright well first off let me introduce myself. My name is Mike, I'm 17 years old, and I'm from Indiana. I attended a technical education school and I take Automotive Technology. I am studying to become a trained and certified mechanic.

The project I'm working on currently is a '92 Honda Civic CX Hatch. I have owned this car for about a year now and it hasn't seen much change until recently. When I bought the hatch the kid that had it before my did a ghetto rig of a mini-me. D16A6 block w/ a D16Z6 head. The engine is a mess w/ wiring and the inside is even worse. He had started to clean up the engine bay but lost interest because of Military action.

This car will be turned into my Track/Daily Driver. Over time as I progress w/ doing anything related to this project this page will be updated. I am tryin to get the damn thing up and running as of now and will be performing huge mods.

I really only have 1 goal for this car. Make 200 whp w/o FI or VTEC. I would also like to have some good track days if meant to be.

Alright now on to the good stuff(well sorta).

Unless it's a rule imposed by the sanctioned body you're a part of, ignoring the benefits of VTEC would be foolish, in my humble opinion.

Good luck, though

in all seriousness just for the challenge. no its not against sanctioned body. when the car goes full track car it'll go into H1. I am just really up for a challenge. I have seen alot of people come close right @ around 190-197 but i want to hit 200 or just above.

My other main challenge is I have to be able to run on 93 Octane. So I'm figuring right around 10.5:1 compression ratio. Anyone else got any tips for hitting my 200 mark?

That's cool then . My suggestion is to get a B18B, put 12.5 : 1CR pistons in it, get huge, chunky camshafts, a massive longtube header from ANR, a huge plenum intake mani from AEBS and port the hell out of your head. Then do tuning with Hondata and a local dyno and you'll break 200whp easy.

most honda motors are vtec....and the ones that arent need alot of work to make 200HP...i think....

like i would say do a crazy s2K swap but thats vtec, and RWD and mad money

i owuld say h22 but thats vtec

its tough your saying no-vtec as if vtec is like FI or soemthing, vtec doesnt add horsepower like you think......its just the way Honda built the type of motor....

have fun with your B18B (integra LS) swap since thats all i can think of...B18B with GSR trans and some work done to it

Well with the 12.5:1 can I run on 93 octane? I may go from 403s to 404s. The valvetrain will be crower material and the rotating assembly will also loose a little bit of weight. The header is going to be from AN-R or J's Racing, not sure if I want a traditional mani or ITBs. The head will recieve huge work, trust me.

you hit the head on the nail w/ that one. Its not that i dislike vtec but I want a challenge. I see alot of LS/VTEC or B20/VTEC that hit 200 whp no problem. I want a challenge, I like a challenge.

The LS is my choice of weapon along w/ a GSR tranny w/ ATS gears.

i doubt 10.5:1 will be enough to achieve 200+whp on an LS.

good luck on your build and keep us updated.

Only the header and cams are legal for h1 and AEBS doesn't currently have an IM for the LS that I know of.

Sounds like a cool buildup, but this is what I would do with the motor:

Background: My friend used Crower 404's, retainers and valve springs, and I think he still had his skunk2. This went into a b18b with I/H/E and without tuning, I believe he hit 164whp.

Now..granted that it was tuned, I would see no problem with that setup being able to put out around 180-185..easy peasy.

Imagine this now; b18b block, type-r pistons, crower 404 with valvetrain, AN-r header, CAI, ported intake mani, ported & polished head, and hondata to tune. 200+ easily..or I would hope so.
