Default Welding thin .035 aluminum tubing to intake manifold flange???

How hard would it be to weld these really thin velocity stacks to my intake manifold flange??? Is it doable? They are aluminum with .035" wall thickness. I'm welding it to a cast factory flange.

These stacks are inexpensive and have a nice taper like the full-race units.

Thanks for the help.

Justin

It's not hard at all, you just need an experienced welder. If you don't think you can do it, you probably can't. Find a good fabricator in your area and he should be able to do it, no problem.

Thanks buddy. Your always there when I need ya

Btw, these stacks are from here:

http://www.tperformance.com/st...tacks/

Once you cut the part that is supposed to be inserted in the carbs, the ID is ~44.5mm.

They have a nice taper like the full-race stacks but just $20 a piece

those stacks look good for the money. what size are the ones you bought? I am looking to add these to my sheet metal intake manifold.

I bought the 5" 48mm IDF ones. Once I cut off the beaded groove at the bottom they are 4.5" tall and have a ID of ~44.5mm.

Justin

Hate to be negative but I think you are going to have allot of problems with cracking due to the very thin wall thickness most sheetmetal intakes are 3 to 4 times as thick good idea but they are to thin and there is to much vibration at work besides the wieght of the plenum and throttle body

as somone else said welding those should be no problem. The only thing that is that sometimes welding to casted aluminum is a bitch it just depends on the casting quality. Either way it should be doable.

I'm taking into account the thin runners and adding aluminum braces to attach the plenum to the flange.

wouldnt you need to heat the stacks and flange up to weld that. and by the time you did that wouldnt the heat warp those stacks since they are so thin?
