fix for 3rd gear grind?
the imfamous 3rd gear grind. it's a b18c1 from a 2000 swapped into a DA..it seems like it's a gsr tranny cause i'm at around 60mph@3000rpm. i know syncromesh is a bandaid so where can i get new syncros or gears? i can't seen to find them..even on ebay
i know you trying to save cash, but either way you are going to have to open up that tranny and fix it (oem), so might as well do it right the first time

my LS has the 3rd gear grind once in a great while if im winding out 2nd. and i dont think you have a gsr tranny; my engine is at just about 3000 rpms when im driving 60. i think it would be higher if you had a gsr tranny.

Dont mean to steal thread but I wanna find a site that sells gears & syncro or something great for shifting. I plan on keepin my LS tranny cause I plan on turbo... I need to find something to hold up for quite awhile. On the streets i RARELY beat the tranny, I save it for the strip but it seems like its catching up with itself.... lately when I'm draggin I have started to double clutch and it works a little bit, I have it down so it don't affect my times at all. Anyway, enough blah blah.... anyone have work doen to there tranny??

thats odd. i thought the gsrs had shorter gears? somebody explain. maybe its just 1-4 that are shorter. i think maybe the b16 tranny has the short 5th gear.

what do you mean?
what do you mean?
B16 is the short one... i think in their 5th gear at 60 its like 4K or something close, don't quote me. I believe GSR trannies and LS trannies are relaitivly close but GSR is I believe slightly shorter... if you search I'm sure something will pop up.
With the 5th gear issues, the B16 guys are the ones most likily to switch to the LS 5th gears i would say... anyone with a b16 tranny care to chime in?
Bump for anyone with synrco & gear ideas

A. You need a new 3rd gear syncro. Stick with OEM
B. You most def. have a GSR tranny. An LS is at approx. 70mph=3000RPM
C. B16 Trannies switch to a LS 5th gear.
D. LS owners (N/A) switch to B16 for lower gears, quicker acceleration.
E. Turbo motors generally work best with the LS transmission, aswell as the motor, ie. LSTurbo
F. Acura can run the tranny number to see what it is, (had this done)

i havent' looked for it yet but any automotive store like autozone should carry it right? there's been a debate between that and honda MTF too...remember how much the syncromesh cost?

i used to grind getting into 3rd gear, thats because the dude that sold me the car install a cheap short shifter in there... i got skunk2 short shifter now and when I got it installed, i had my mechanic check the shift linkage and it was a little bent! after that... my shifting is alot more smoother and no grinds at all... only sometimes when i powershift
