Default Motor mount leaking? HELP PLZ.

Hey guys,

I just swapped in a b18c into my 96 hatch. The only motor mounts i'm running are the two top driver/passenger ones, and the rear tranny mount. I was told that you do NOT have to run the two front bottoms that mount to the chassis.

Anyways, I hit VTEC once to give a friend a ride, and when we got out of the car to pop my hood, I noticed the liquid-filled driver side motor mount was squirting dark oily substance. Does this mean that this mount is bad, and how imperative is it to replace? Also, are all hybrid guys running all five mounts/brackets or only the three i am running?

Yes that is a liquid filled mount. I suggest you fix that ASAP and put back in the torque mounts (two bottom mounts). Theres a reason why they are called "torque mounts" because they prevent the motor from torque back too far under load. If you dont fix the upper mount then the motor might just fall out of the engine bay, rip the brackett off of the block, or something worst. My cousin broke his upper drive mount at the track and luckily all it did was **** up the axles and the mount. He went ahead and ordered a pro-fab polyurethe mount which is like a EG/DC mount. It comes with a bracket and mount.

Dude, the bottom driver side mount is a torque mount, that is a REALLY important mount. Along with the lower front tranny mount. Think about it, why would ES and Prothane make inserts for the lower front mounts and the bitch mount? cause they receive the MOST movement when the car is under acceleration.

Aside from that, the 96-00 upper driveside mounts are **** so I'm not surprised you broke that one. Get an aftermarket one, I suggest the Hasport mount. No it's not cheap but you will the engine is a lot stiffer, so it is well worth the money, especially when you have a b18 in there.

And yes you would still need the front brackets, aftermarket mounts only include the actual mount.

what number are the torque mounts on that website? from my understanding, i thought i was going to be able to use all my stock mounts/brackets minus the rear tranny (99-00 si) and my driver side bracket (also si). i bought those from hondaautomotive and thought all my other existing brackets should be able to be used.

i guess not???

I would also suggest checking out your local salvage yards first before ordering them new. Your looking at 100$ plus new, whereas a junk yard would probably give them to you.
Just make sure they're not badly cracked or torn.

just look around, even for torn ones as long as they arent torn out completely because you can use polyurethene inserts from pepboys. also, http://www.slhonda.com is a better site for honda parts because you can just view the picture and click on the part so you can make sure its the part you want instead of guessing with hondaautomotive. also, http://www.car-part.com is a good site for parts from junkyards all around the US

96-00 civic drivers side top mounts are the well known weaklink, u can get the conversion mount from avid or hasport to convert them to 92-95 style that are stronger..

Yes you need all mounts, and it sounds like your liquid filled mount twisted too much and busted.

For that liquid one, take the mount out, remove all the guts and put prothane inserts in there. Info http://www.prostreetonline.com...serts/
The ones you need are the hockey pucks.
