I was thinking about a project, taking a stock EK muffler and cutting off the top and gutting the muffler, running a drilled 2.5" pipe straight through the muffler with some kind of fiberglass or stainless deadening material. Also, I would enlarge the inlet and outlet to 2.5". Most people would say "buy an oval es" etc. But right now I seem to have way more time than money and the welder is standing by. The only snag I could see running into would be the OEM baffles inside are welded to the top cover that I would be cutting off, then i would have to use new sheetmetal to seal her back up....just thinking out loud let me know what you guys think.
I was thinking of doing this before but then thought that it would sound like crap. If you get the correct sound deadening material, you could turn that muffler into something better then the ES oval or anything else. But you just have to find the right material and i wouldnt even know where to look for that stuff.... good luck.

i did that, with an ek muffler, they are not welded on inside just tacked, is was fairly easy, and it sounds great, not loud at all, i ahd no material inside, a 2.5 pipe with about 25 holes drilled in it, havent got a ticket since

Thanks guys...all I gotta do is find a spare muffler, I'm not gonna experiment on my only one, and maybe I'll try it without any packing material, but it seems that it would make obnoxious noises with all the reverberations. Then again flowmasters have no packing, but they do have Baffles which is what I'm trying to get rid of. anyways I'll post up pics i should be trying this soon since I have a week off soon before school starts again. peace
