cam gears and timing question
i have done timing belts on my old b16 and h22 before. when we got our integra gsr it had cam gears. i think they are skunks or something. they are set at 0 which is where i want them, hell if i had extra money i would get oem ones to replace them BUT, my question is, there are 3 little dimples, one big one at the top(12 oclock) and 2 smaller ones on the sides(3 and 9 oclock). is the big dimple TDC? thanks for the help. i search but to no avail!
yeah prolly... the big one prolly goes straight up and the ones on the sides need to be aligned with the mark on the timing belt cover.. look down and see if the mark on the crank pully lines up too..

dude, read before you post.. he is talking about the cam gears.

^^ Man you replaced the VTECK sig with this crappy sig.....man the old one was way better. Maadd Vtak Yo!!!!
When the engine is at TDC are the two big dimple at 12?? If you are not sure if you are at TDC you can pull plug #1 and place a long screwdriver deon the chamber till it hits the piston. then slowley crank the motor over by hand(using the crank pulley) unitll the screwdriver goes all the way up and stops. It will stop for juat a second and then start to go down. This will get you TDC. Once the piston hit TDC double check the timing maks on the crank line up with the block.
Hope this helps

yeah that will get the piston to tdc.. hes trying to get the cams at tdc.. hes asking if the big dimples on his aftermarket cam gears are the same as the "up" marks on the stock cam...

I have OEM ones if you want. Trade u for the skunks and ill ship first, you ship them later when you replace them.

The only reason i suggested that was to make sure the piston was a TDC, once that is knowen, then you can confirm if the cams are at TDC. The cams have a key in them for the cam gear. This key is a 12 oclock at TDC. Then if the key is inline with the big dimple then you would know you are tdc.
Can anyone confirm my key theory?
p.s. the key is the little square piece you slide inbetween the cam and the gear to keep it all in line.

That little key is called a woodfruff key. But, yes, the cam's woodruff slot are directly in the 12 olock position at top-dead-center. Just dont forget that those cams spin twice for one crank rotation.

yeah...thats right.. make sure your not 180 out when you put it back together.
