To Sand Or Not To Sand... (Painting Rims)
That Is The Question... I'm trying to paint my rims black and leave the outer part of the rim silver. I'm familiar with the process but I do have a quick question.
I'm trying to decide whether to sand the rims off before putting the primer on or just to prime it over the rims as it is now. (After cleaning it thouroughly obviously)
My rims are still fairly new and don't really have any scratches on them. I've gotten mixed responses, some say that sanding them down will make the primer and paint stick better as others say there's no need to sand just to prime them. Any suggestions?

Just finished mine and I can tell where on the very inside of the rim I did not sand as much and the primer didn't stick quite as well. Had to use a couple coats on the inside to get it to look good. I would just lightly wet sand with 600 grit to give the paint a little something to stick to.
I really suggest wet sand 400 grit, then a coat of primer, then wet sand 600 grit then paint. It will last longer and be easier to paint. I will be posting a detailed how to sometime here soon.
