I sold my CBR and my friend knew how much I was missing riding so he told me that he would leave his ZX-6R stored at my house and I could ride it when ever if I paid 1/2 the cost of new tires for it. It's worth it to me since I can't afford a bike right now to have one I can use.
So my question is, where is a good place to buy tires online. I'm looking for a set for around $200-$250. I don't know much about tires as the CBR was my first street bike and it needed them when I sold it.
Any help would be appreciated. TIA

You might want to be more specific as to what brand you are looking for or at least the type of tire, soft, super soft, hard, super hard or what type of riding you do.
pilot powers Yummy
This place is also good too southwest moto tires

Metzeler M1s are cheap.
Pilot Powers are supposed to be one of the best tires, especially for the price.
I had Diablo Corsas, which are awesome for street/track riding, but really expensive.

Pilot Powers. Unreal. They will be on the upper end of your price range. Probably $250-260 new for the pair.
Dunlop D208ZR's. Tried and True. I've been through probably three sets. I like 'em alot. Was my favorite tire. The new powers though. WOW. These will run you about $225ish new for the pair.
Metzler M1's. Popular tire especially for the price. I started out on these. Can't really beat 'em for the price. About $210 for the pair. D208's seemed to last longer all around. They took slightly longer to come on, but stayed on longer then the M1's in my experience.
Pilot Power's are the new win for me. My buddy keeps trying to get me on Diablo Corsa's as that's all he runs. I'm trying to justify the $310+ price tag though. I mean are they really that much better then Pilot Power's? Or do they really last much longer? The price has got me iffy at the moment. I'd like to try them, but....

Sorry about the vagary, we are both fairly casual riders. More into cruising with the option of speed than racing. Definately not dragging any knees here.
More looking for a tire that will be used for some 120 mile roundtrip freeway commutes and an occasional run through some twisties.
Thanks for all the suggestions on the type, I'm also looking for a good on-line store. Hopefully one that someone has used before.

For casual to spirited riding at an affordable price, I think the M1's are perfect.
God forbid it ever happens but what if you were to crash his bike? Is it fully covered and you'd just have to pay the deductible or what?
(Only reason I ask is because a lot of friendships are ruined due to money and what not.)

How do the Pilot Roads compare to the Powers? It would seem the Roads are better suited for every day riding but then again, I don't ride in the wet so maybe the Powers are better, especially since they're cheaper.

Appreciate the concern but it's really not a problem. We've been friends for about 15 years, money has never been a problem. The most apt term for our friendship would probably be Hetero Life Mates.

Exactly why you should work all that stuff out ahead of time. Seen too many friendships, long ones at that, ruined over something like this.

Let me put it like this. When he was a HS senior I let him take my Chevelle to dinner in Seattle and then to his prom because the alternative was a '85 mazda 626. It got backed into at prom and he had it fixed. When we lived together I let him slide on rent for 2 months so he could pay off the high interest loan he had on the bike. I'm lucky enough to have a group of 4-5 friends that although none of us is by any means rich we don't really care too much about money. If one of us needs money and another has it we help each other out, no strings. We're a pretty tight group and have been this way for as long as I can remember. I guess it is pretty uncommon in todays world for people to act this way.
This situation arose because he got a job offer in Seatle that doesn't pay very well until he's done with training. His current daily driver, a 1980 caddy fleetwood makes it hard to save any money making the commute. I originally offered to just loan him the money for a set of tires and he then said he'd let me pay half and he'd store it at my house because I have space and he doesn't and that he'd leave the keys so I could ride it when he didn't need it because he knows how much I miss riding.
His biggest concern is not anything happening to the bike, but something happening to me while on the bike. I've been on dirt bikes since I was 5 and into street bikes since I was 15. I'm an experienced rider just not high on the tech end of street bikes because I've always been into cars as far as working on things mechanically. It would be like if you loaned your bike or car to your brother and he called you up saying he'd been in an accident. The first concern would be your brother. Material things can be replaced.
Back on-topic: Thanks for all the advice.
I'm going to sit down and do some cross shopping and see what I can find $ wise. I'll let you know what I buy and what I think of the purchase when it's done.
