Default CRX weight reduction

i have the heaviest of they heaviest- a 1990 Crx Si w/B16. i wanted to try to shave some weight off but dont really know how much weight each reduction would take off. how much weight would taking out the carpeting and the plastic stuff in the back take off? and what are some other weight reductions i could do and how much weight would that take off?

You can definitely shave 15 or so lbs with a hawker g-13 battery.

The AC is good for about 30lbs but I guess if you have a B16 that's most likely already gone.

Mine came from surplusev.com back when it was still open about a year and a half ago.

I paid a total of $70 for the battery, two gold post terminals, and shipping. It weights 11lbs.

not to hijack the thread but what exactly is it that makees a crx si so much heavier than say, a crx hf? other than the obvious which would be rear discs, and a sunroof. sound deadener maybe?

front and rear bumper reinforcements are different too. the HF ones are more like brackets, smaller gas tank too I think.

I say you start off by cleaning your car. Get all that crap out of it that you know you don't use and are just "saving". Check your yellow pages and see where you can get your car weighed with you in it. After getting your current standing, look into:

Lighter wheels/tires
No Passenger Seat
Body Kit
CF or Fiberglass Hood
No Spare Tire
Smaller Battery (and relocate to back for weight dist.)
Lexan Sunroof
Lexan Windows
No A/C
No Carpet
No Floor Mats
No Door Panels
Internal A/C Components

That's completely relative to the original weight and power of a vehicle.

In autocrossing, the wieght definitely matters alot. I cant tell you how many times I've lost or won by a couple of hundredths of a second.

take out any speakers or stereo stuff too if you can handle it, also heater core, you can get a smaller radiator, lose lots of the exhaust if you can. i have an 88si and with all but the dash and door panels (all stereo stuff out, still have sound deadening stuff) i weighed just under 1900lbs without driver. i also had poly mugen bumpers on at the time and they are 20lbs each. since then i have switched back to stock bumpers and no bumper support. and taken the passenger seat (38lbs i think they are) but have yet to get back on the scale. but with all my turbo stuff on it adds weight, like 50lbs easily for turbo, mani, piping and intercooler. stop off at any truck stop after they close, the one i went to had a digital sign that was always on even tho the truck stop was closed. ill try and go back today and see what i weigh in at now.

There is a guy in Texas who makes it. Here are some pics off a CRX.

I'm definetely getting this done when I get back from my delpoyment. He sells on eBay like $200. I don't know if you all might consider it a little steep but I think it looks 100% better than the Non-glass Si Sunroofs and is much lighter.

i like the idea of the plexi glass sunroof but $200 is too much. you can buy your own plexi glass from a hardware store and cut it out to fit for less than $100 most likely.

also think about the sun. if you do that, you'll get a wicked farmers tan. (consider some kind of tinting that will block UV rays and will keep it from being too bright.)

that sucks coz i tan really fast (im filipino). but it looks clean. maybe i shoulda put some money into gettin a body kit, but im not into fiber glass. it breaks too easy and the roads here in Louisiana kill body kits
