Default Aluminum retainers worth using?

Is there any downside to using aluminum retainers instead of titanium? Ive heard Ti retainers are wear items for race cars but i figure aluminum retainers can't be that much more heavier than Ti retainers. I plan to use RM gen2 springs so would aluminum retainers be alright or should i just go with Titanium?

Aluminum retainers tend to open up and allow the keepers and valve to pull thru them. Bad news for your motor.

Just a quick FYI, titanium is heavier than aluminum.

Our springs and retainers use a snap in design, which drastically reduces wear on the retainers. It also means that our springs and retainers are designed to work together, and shouldn't be mixed with other products.

I was always really uneasy about aluminum retainers. Maybe and exotic alloy, aluminum just doesn't have the desired properties for something like a retainer, honestly it even impresses me that titanium is worthy of the task. The retainer has such a critical role. I wonder what is the valve keeper/lock angle for our honda's. I wonder if any of the companies have experimented with different angles.

The spring and retainer must fit together tightly or the titanium will flake off of the retainer as the spring moves around. This is what I like about the SuperTech design..a very tight fit also.

The only time we would reccommend Al retainers would be for our competition. If they don't know better then too bad for them.

One needs do research regarding limited fatigue life of aluminun. There is a very good reason why lifetime hours of usage are recorded for airplanes and helicopters and once a specified limit is reached the aircraft is retired.
