Default Is your EF mean to you?

I swear, this car must hate me!

Just this week the following things took a **** on me:

Clutch switch
starter
main relay

I also had to replace an injector O-ring because it was leaking badly.

I am afraid for what may come next. I want to keep the car, I love the way it drives and moves. Even though it only has a D16z6 (intake, header, exhaust) this thing is pretty quick. I am finishing a set of ITB's and I am very anxious to install but I need to take care of all this small **** first.

It's an old car with high mileage. Stuff breaks. You just have to deal with it.

My ef is very mean to me. First was the TPS, so one more reason to go MPFI. Then it was the f*ckin steering tie rod ends, then I blew a shock (my fault), then I needed a new battery. Right after that, I had to get a new starter. Then my steering is f*cked up once again, and might go with the full rack to avoid problems. Then I needed new tires and last friday my clutch went out, and got an Exedy one Awesome clutch. Already got 70 miles on it and it grips good for a $120 clutch.

And i'm making it really really short. I don't want to go into details. I have kept records of everything I've done to the car since the year and a half i've had it, and it's $1200 in repairs w/o MPFI swap

It was weird, I went to crank my car up and let it idle a bit (not driving it right now). When I crunk it, I though to myself, damn I can't hear my fuel pump anymore (I have a Walbror 255).10 sec. later, the car shut off and wouldn't crank again. I left came home, searched on H.T, and came to the conclusion it was either the relay or the new pump took a crap. I jacked my brothers relay from his DA and swapped them out, car runs fine now...The End

Yeah I think its that time of year for my car too. My oil pan leaked, replaced it, then my o-ring on my distributor was leaking, fixed it, now my steering wheel is cracked and falling apart. I also have a starter problem, probably just the contacts, and in April someone tried to steal my car. Nothing serious at the moment. Also I have had a leaking heater core since I have had the car so its just bypassed.

I just got mine, so far its a so-so relationship. I give it some love, it shows me love. Luckly I can blame any new probs I find on the previous owner for a while.

i think only the Driver side of my car hates me....

Replaced the regulator twice. The sound cuts out on it sometimes.... The front fender panel is shot to hell.....The crack in the window(only on the driver side). And i've snapped a total of 6 lugs on just the driverside.....hehehe....so you could say my car is only half a bitch.

Okay, you might think you are unlucky because these things all took a crap within a week. And yes, that is above average for problems within a week's time, even considering the car's age. But keep a couple of things in mind. First of all, we are dealing with an old car here. Stuff is going to go bad from time to time. And at times, quite a few things might go bad at once. On the other hand, all of this stuff is pretty cheap and easy to repair. At least if you take advantage of Pick-And-Pull parts when it comes to stuff like starters. And finally, if you own an ED/EF, you probably don't have to worry about car payments and you probably pay relatively low insurance. Couple these two facts with the fact that you seem to find your car quite enjoyable (all things considered), and I think that having to deal with a minor problem or two (or, in this case, four) from time to time is not a big deal.

By the way, the ONLY way this sort of thing could REALLY kill is if you have to pay someone else to do the work. But then again, if you can't take care of simple little problems such as these by yourself, you shouldn't own such an old car.

One more thing. If you own older cars like these, it SERIOUSLY helps if you have two.
