Along a similar line, does anyone know the actual gear ratios for the automatics?

Update: Found them. listed in a post below.

I've one from 98 SI (SOHC vtec), it has 110k km on it. just did manual conversion so i don't need it anymore. The tranny is in perfect condition, i used to change fluid for every 25k km by using Honda ATF only. PM me or email to danluk@gmail.com if u are interested.

I'm in Toronto, Canada

all d-series trannys bolt right right up to any d-series motors, and all automatic d-series trannys have the same gear ratios. it doesn't matter if it came from an ex, si, dx, lx etc. don't know about the vx's and hx's though.

Technically wrong, there is a slight difference in the 2 autos put in these cars (92-95 Civic with the A24A & M24A trannies).

Automatic Ratios
1st 2.600 DX/EX
2nd 1.468 DX/EX
3rd 0.975 DX/EX
4th 0.673 DX - 0.638 EX
Reverse 1.954 DX/EX
Final 4.333 DX/EX

So actually the EX tranny is longer than the DX in 4th gear.
All I can see would be about 1mpg better mileage and maybe 5mph higher top speed from swapping them.
I think all others that have autos use the DX ratios, not sure.
The manuals for the DX and EX vary to a greater extent.
It looks like if you want shorter gears you are gonna have to do a manual tranny swap.

question...i'm running a jdm d15b with the stock auto dx tranny, and the tach is reading that the car shifts around 4200-4500...i can push it to about 5g if i shift it manually. is there any way to raise the shift point? is the tach wrong?

running an auto p28 ecu modded with advanced timing, rev limiter, a-2-f, vtec engagement, and no speed limiter...but it won't do me any good if my car shifts so low, what's the deal?

I dont know whats wrong with your tranny but mine (EX tranny M24A) shifts at about 7000rpm if I keep it floored, the downshift cable attached to the throttle is adjusted to specs too, maybe you need to check that.

Perhaps the EX tranny is designed to shift at higher rpm to catch VTEC in the Z6, I dont know, but that might make it worth swapping?

that's what i was thinking...i figured the dx was designed to shift at lower RPMs cuz it doesn't need to worry about vtec engagement...so now i need to get ahold of an EX tranny. shoulda thought about that when i did the swap

My ECU is only connected to my tranny at the torque converter lockup, dont think it actually tells the thing when to shift, that is internal.

Something is wrong telling your car to shift early (limp mode). I have both trannys rebuilt with a TCI shift kit for my OBD1 Vtec ZC motor. They'll go all the way to ~7000 and even hit the rev limiter in first gear if you want them to. Anyone that has an auto trans (B or D series) near San Diego they don't want please email me shaundrake@metacrawler.com

Will your engine even rev over 4500rpm, if not then you are definitely in "limp mode".

It slips all the way up to 6500 (bad clutch packs, rebuild with TCI cuz its the same price as regular rebuild) or there's not enough line pressure to shift (check fluid level and put it right in the hash marks, or adjust the TV cable)?
