I have a 96 ek hatch with stock d16y7, I picked up a new header for for a d16y8 and a new hi-flow cat. I already have and aftermarket axle-back exhaust on my car. I want to put my headers and cat on and get the new custom piping from the cat back to my axle-back. Now here is the problem went to the muffler shop they guy said he had no way of knowing where the new header and cat would end up and he said the pipe length would be off. So I was wondering if any one with the crappy y7 headers with the cat built in has put y8 header on and relocated the cat. If so what is the lenght of your pipe from the cat to the axle-back section? This is a hatch btw. If your wondering why I dont get the shop to just do everything its because he quoted me 650 to make the piping and install the headers and cat. So I just want the piping made and Im going to istall everything else by my self. Any help would be great thanx.

Yeah 650 is steep but im in canada and everything is a bit steep here. If my wording is confusing basically if anyone with a an stock ek hatch has replaced the header and cat for an ex d16y8 header and cat if so what is the legnth of your pipe from the cat to the axle.

Damn what a rip off... Out here you could bolt up the header and cat together, hang your exhaust and drive down to a muffler shop and they would cut your b-pipe and weld on a new flange for like $40. I'm y7 turbo so I don't know what a cat even looks like..... Why don't you just Measure your stock header and then compare that to the measurement of your new header and cat bolted up??? That would be the easiest way to do it....
Easy thing to do would be to install the header, and cat. Then, drive your car to the exhaust shop, and get the mid-pipe made, it's going to be really loud, but only for a short distance.

I'm doing sort of the same thing at the end of the week with my 99 dx hb. I bought a header and an oem cat. Gonna put the header on which bolts directly to the b-pipe, drive down to the muffler shop with the cat in hand and have them measure the length of the cat, cut that length from the stock b-pipe, weld on a new 3-bolt flange to the b-pipe and install the cat.
