sup guys i have a 98 base prelude (h22a4) about 2 weeks ago i did a small tune up and replaced all the belts( FB,AB,TB), all engine seals, timing tensioner.... along with the radator flushed, oil changed, spark plugs changed. i did all this because last week i drove the car to myrtle beach and i did not want the car giveing me any trouble on my 600 mile trip. well the car drove really good all the way down and back (it still drives really well ) but..about 65% of the start up's the car will ether not crank on first try or crank and idel at about 300 rmp untill i hit the gas then it idels at 700-800 rmp...(at idel) while it its ideling it shakes the cab a little bit and ther is a "cam like thump" coming from the stock exhaust..(if i turn on the a/c the thump stops and it sounds normal, the shake is also gone and you can't even tell the car is running its so clean.. ) there is no CEL
anybody know what this could be..? thanks for reading, any helpful responce is welcome..

Hmm, that's weird. My car idles at 500 rpms and I get that thump noise coming from the exhaust. However, my car runs fine.

When you say the car won't crank, do you mean it doesn't start when you crank it??

 

By thump, do you mean backfire? Have you put a timing light on it since the tune up?

 

maybe you are a tooth off on one of the cam gears, but the ac thing is kinda weird for that idea....

definitely check the timing and get back....

 

like i'll try to crank the car..most of the time after ive been driveing it for a while or when i first crank it in the morning it will not crank on first try and when it finaly does after about 2 trys it will have like a boged start up 65% of the time...like its not geting fuel or spark..while its in this boged state..if i hit the gas really quick to get it over 500 rpm...it will idel right at 650-750 rpm..(i belive thats normal for the 5th gen.) while its ideling at the normal rpm rate..it will sorta shake (but not hard, just enough to notice its shaking) there is like a thump sound or like a miss sound (like a pop or somthing) coming from the exhaust...it will do that untill i turn on the a/c..when the a/c is on the car idels perfect with no thump and no shake..its almost like its not getting enough spark to make the car idel right...after the a/c is on the problem is solved...but i should not have to tuen on my a/c to make my car idel right...the car run really good..still has really good power. im stumped

any ideas??

i'll get the place that did the work to check the timing. and get back asap.

 

check the timing, and check your injectors too.
