I am in the process of painting my car and was wondering can offer any tips on how to remove the door moldings properly. I was also interesteed in taking my rain gutters out too.
just pry thoes ******* off if you intend on getting rid of them and smoothing it out. They are held on by butterfly clips i think and shouldnt be hard to pop off. Same thing for the rain gutters
... Or you could do it the RIGHT way and still have usable parts to put back on the car.
You'll want to go in through the inside of the door. Remove the door panel, remove the plastic sheet that's glued to the metal of the door, roll up the window, and you should be able to get to the plastic clips from the backside and release them. You can also get at the lower door moulding (the one on the bottom of the door) to remove them at this time.
BTW: If you just pry them off, you WILL NOT be able to reuse the door rubstrip mouldings. Honda doesn't sell just the clips anymore; you get to buy a whole new door moulding for $42 a door.

Well yes that is the correct way if you want to keep them. I personally dont like the molding. The crx is already full of lines. Smoothed out doors and panels look nice. They were put on there to abosrb imact from minor hits ( people swinging ther door into yous ) Not for style so much. So if you have a crx with the original moldings, more times than not they are not perfect. When you repaint a car, you want everything perfect. The 84$ will be well spent. Nobody said body work is cheap. Just a thought

you don't even have to go through all of that b.s. just use two flat head screwdrivers from the top and the bottom to press in the tabs on each clip. stick a shop towel under the screwdriver to make sure you don't scratch the paint. or don't, you're repainting anyway. and that's that. there is absolutely NO NEED to remove the whole door panel and then worry about breaking door panel clips and getting the damn window **** off, and then glueing the moisture barrier back on
. and honda does still sell the clips, i bought them three weeks ago to make sure i had a couple extra in case i broke mine, while taking off my side mouldings for paint.

Kewl. If that works for ya, go for it. It'd probably be easier and save time. I tried it that way, but wasn't having any luck with it, and I definitely didn't want to scratch my paint (too new still), so I had to take the long way 'round...
Good to hear the clips ARE available. My Honda dealer told me they weren't. Might have to check out Majestic or San Leandro and see if they've got 'em.

The other way to get the door moldings off is to 1)undo the rubberized bolt inside the door (toward the rear of the car). 2) flex the molding slightly so the bolt is no longer going thru the hole in the door. 3) slide/push the molding along the door toward the front of the car. You'll feel it move a bit, then pull it back. Keep going back and forth, further forward each time, until it pops off. You have to have the door open to do this.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP
i just removed all my moldings. The door has no acess from the back (I have 90 crx). i removed the bolt and used a feel gauge to remove the clips. I peeled it back and then popped each clip one by one. I found it easier to remove the top clip then the bottom, then move forward. It didn't take that long just was very tedious. I didnt even scratch the car, so if you put masking tape. there is no way to scratch it.
Now I gotta take the lower metal pieces off
I still wondering the best way to take off teh rain gutters!!!!!!!!
THANKS FOR ALL THE QUIK RESPONSES!!!!

I believe they are on with glue. If so then get a heat gun or hair dryer and heat it up alittle to loosen the glue. If not than maybe you will have to take off your headliner and stuff to see how the come off. I never took any off before so this is a guess
