Default ls/vtec in a crx?

I know a guy with a spare ls block sitting in his garage and i plan on picking up a crx. On the ls block the pistons have black substance on and around them. What should be the most i pay for it and also how much modification if any would be needed to do all motor ls/vtec in a crx?

you can leave it sotck and cross your fingers, or replace the internals and make it really last.

the latter will cost you a hefty amount.

either way theres some mods to make to the block. gotta add an oil passageway search on here, there 400 topics about it. there are also "kits" you can buy now with everything you ened and detailed instructions, if complete DIY isnt your thing.

the swap itself is no different then any other b series, with the ls block the head sits a little higher, might have to cut a few ribs from the hood, which is no big deal.

the info is here. use it.

What is normally used to clean that? Could it just be ran through a parts washer?

if the motor is taken apart , yea you can use some degreaser spray to get that grime off. I used wd49 and scrubbed the hell outta the piston tops cuz the block was still together. i shoulda used degreaser had i known about it back inthe day

I'm in the midst of putting an LS/VTEC into my hatch.

I had it rebuilt with PR3 pistons and OEM rings, new ACL bearings, and a balanced bottom end with ARP rod bolts. I'm also using a B16A oil pump and water pump, and some GSR ARP head studs. It's pretty budget, but it should put out ~11.4:1 compression - which should haul *** when I get some good cams for it

I say do it. Even if you just throw it in there, it'll be fine. It'll cost more to have it taken apart, and then you'll want to replace everything like I did. It's all a matter of how much you want to spend!
