Advantages of Carbon Fiber hood?
Spoon paints their cars white or yellow or whatever but keep the carbon fiber hood unpainted or paint it black i think. if my car is white and my hood is black or unpainted carbon fiber, wouldnt the engine/engine bay temp be hotter than if i painted it white??????? coz a black car is hotter than a white car in the sun.
what are the benefits of having a carbon fiber hood? i know its lighter, but how much lighter is it than the stock Crx hood? what are some other benefits?

maybe like 15 pounds lighter than stock hood....other than weight saving i dont think there are any benefits...looks tight though..oh yeah carbon fiber hood make u go 0-60 in 2.2 seconds

Alot of the cheap carbon fiber hoods are just as heavy as the stock hoods. Sometimes the carbon fiber hoods are heavier.

hey man im sorry....fiberglass may be lighter. but any decent VIS CF hood will will always be lighter than fiberglass....also it is tough to find a decent fiberglass part, i almost dont care where you go. also, even a shitty CF hood which is only CF laid over fiberglass will still be lighter than steel.

I just put a cf hood on my car, and it might be 3 lbs lighter than my stock....maybe. The lightest ones I have seen are just fiberglass. Most cf hoods is basically cf over fiberglass, some are full cf, bust most mid priced hoods are cf over fiberglass. They do not wight much less than an oem ef hood.
I have the VIS JDM CRX SIR HOOD , its lighter than my oem hood , all it is just fiberglass with CF over it , I would have to say I saved about about 10-15lbs not much, Now all I do is worry about someone or something scratching it. Who thought carbon could be stressful????

for real..some guy was saying that he seen CF hoods weigh more than steel ones...i was crackin up

When I got my Crx, it came with a cf hood. Frankly, it's the cheapest, crappiest looking cf hood ever!! However, it's more than likely one of the lightest! Whatever company produced it, used mainly fiberglass with maybe two or three ultra thin layers of carbon fiber...oh well, it came with the car and no price change due to it. I'm painting over it hopefully end of summer since the thing looks soooo horrible.
the color of the hood has nothing to do with heat, really.
its stunnarific. all the kids are doing it.
i like my oem jdm hood.

There are a couple more reasons to go carbon fiber. One is the fact that it will look good unpainted. Painting a stock hood costs LOTS of money. SO much so that it can actually be cheaper to buy even a good carbon fiber hood than to buy a stock hood and paint it.
Another reason is engine clearance. With a stock hood, you have to cut the support away to accommodate a taller engine (ie B18C, LS-VTEC, etc.). But carbon fiber hoods can be purchased to clear the valve cover. True, you can go JDM. But if you go this route, you will have to replace just about everything else in the front end as well. And all this stuff costs at least as much as a good carbon fiber hood. Also, it is HIGHLY unlikely that the color of the JDM stuff will match your car, thus the ADDITIONAL expense of painting.

If you want light, just go with fiberglass.
