i have a 28 pin dip socket.
i haev a chip labled "pwo pr3 spoon 4200 vtec no rev limit no speed limit

im about pissed off enough to just go on ghettodyne and buy all my own programming **** and a chip burner and start burning off whatever the hell i want.

can i unsolder the 28 pin stock "chip", solder in my socket, then place the stock chip into the socket that i desoldered from the board until i start making my own ****?

heres the derelict's site. as you can see it says "pr3 pwo pr4 blah blah" all on the same line

You can't use a PWO chip in a PR3 but if you'll notice all of the ECU's codes listed are OBD0, it may just be a generic sticker for all of the OBD0 ECU. Turn the ign on but dont start it, once you hear your relay click off your CEL light should go out, if it doesn't then you know the ECU/ROM is bad. If you've never soldered or desoldered be careful not to rip/pull any of the tracers out but if your up and willing to do it, add a Ares ZIF socket or some other low profile ZIF so you can change ROM easily. Good luck... check this site out it helps a ton... PGMFI.org
