code 17 VSS - speed sensor problems
Got a new clutch yesterday with a 10 lb fly and now I'm throwing code 17 VSS - speed sensor with the original one the spedo bounces and throwing codes occasionally. We exchanged it for one out of a accord f22b1 and now there is no codes but the spedo still don't work. any help would be great thanks in advance

well just tryed to franfstine one weith the bottom from the orig and the top from the accord and still throwing code 17 with no spedo
I had this problem for over a year...(mine occurred after a Quaife LSD install) I posted it on here with no help, so me, Speeddreamz, and another friend started trouble shooting.
Here is a checklist starting with the cheapest first:
1. Pull the VSS and make sure the gear is there
2. Get a new plug (cut the old one off and solder a new one on)--this is what ended up fixing my problem!
3. Get a new speedometer fro your instrument cluster (pretty easy to change)
4. Get a new VSS
I would definately try the new plug, the one on my car looked fine, and metered, but those plugs tend to corrode over time causing a bad connection!
Let me know if any of these fix your problem.
Later,
Nick

that clip is usually a bitch to get clipped together, make sure you have it clipped together completely.
Also, on some models, the cable can come out of the top of the clip (ones that aren't electrical I guess) make sure its all the way in.
othwerise follow what sleeperHatch said.

ive been having this problem for the better portion of a year. i got it fixed, but it went south again after i had to unplug the vss clip. the issue is 90% the ecu harness side clip for the sensor being corroded. i had to depin the plug, scrape off the corrosion and then repin it for it to work again. giant pain in the ***. now i have a fast car without a working speedo. grrr
your car is so fast you that can't see the speedo move, lol...
try packing the plug with grease next time you get around to cleaning the corrosion out, that will prevent that from happening.
