I hope this is the correct section for this question. I've got the oppurtinity to buy a '92 Civic VTi (160BHP) and a '91 Corolla 4AGE (20V/160BHP). Both have run the same amount of km's and are both perfectly maintained. I have to be honest and confess I don't have that much knowledge of Honda. A simple thing like searching the engine type of this VTi makes me a crybaby. B16A, B16A1, B16A2, B16A3, Ahhhh. What kind of difference is there between all these engine-types? Is this engine just as reliable as the 20V 4AGE? Wich of those two should I buy, according to you, and why is that?

I would say go with the 92 Civic VTi because it's a Honda! 160HP vs 160HP doesn't mean anything. That Civic has mad VTEC!!

Enough playing around, B16's are B16's. The A2, A3, etc. just corresponds to what chassis it's on. For example: B16a2 are on 99-00 SI's. B16a3 on Del Sol VTEC. B16a or B16a II (generation 2) on JDM civics. And of course JDM motors have slightly more HP.

EE9/EE8 (civic vtec/crx vtec) Bj 89/91 are B16A1
EG6/Del Sol VTI are b16A2(92 till now)

In japan they don't use the last numbers so they only have the First generation B16A equal to the EE9/EE8 B16A1

The second generation B16A is the same as the b16A2 only HP from JDM engines is more..

B16A1=>150HP
B16A2=>160HP

1st generation JDM B16A=>160HP
2nd Generation JDM B16A=> 170hp

is a 91 corolla the same as the AE86 or whatever they are ? because if so, id get that.

Edit: on second thought , i doubt it is, but hell, asking cant hurt.

@daklown; It's a FWD Corolla AE92, but it has the same 4AGE engine, however the AE86 is a 16V.
