Default GSR brakes on my Civic DX intelligent questions

I just got a 94 DX coupe, from the original owner...

Also just swindled complete GSR brakes off an ABS integra, with the 1" MC/BB combo and a 40/40 prop valve from a 90 integra. I know the prop valve will work, and i know i just have to remove the sensors from the brakes, and they will work... but ive got a couple of questions anyways

#1. since the GSR MC/BB is from an ABS... will this make a differance on my NON abs civic?

#2. Is it alright to take the propotioning valve apart, to switch brakets from one with an EG? the 90 integra bracket will not bolt up

#3. Since the GSR MC is ABS, one of the holes to the prop valve is on the left middle (looking at it like its mounted on the firewall), and one is on the right front. Which line off the proportioning valve goes to which side, or does it even matter?

#4. I already swapped the front brakes out from the Stock DX's, to the Civic EX brakes... arent these the same as the GSR fronts? or is there a differance im unaweare of? Hubs or brake size/calipers?

#5. This really isnt a question, but for those of you that have done this, the custom fabbing of the brake hardlines is a ******* *****, especually when you live in a small town. Id suggest getting a NON abs Integra RS MC for those who do this in the future.

1. An ABS master cylinder is a pain in the *** since you have to bend & re-flare the brake lines. I would sell your ABS MC & BB and buy the correct master cylinder to bolt onto your existing booster & hard lines (discussed later in this post).

2. NO! Taking the prop valve apart will mess up the valve. One bolt should line up, and thats all you need to hold it tight to the firewall.

3. Don't bother with the ABS MC. 1" is too big for a non ABS brake system anyways (Unless your useing Type R or NSX front calipers).

4. Are you saying your using EX brakes instead of GSR brakes on the front? If so, I would switch them out for GSR brakes if I had them avilable. The GSR caliper has a slightly larger piston (not thats a good thing) and the pads are way cheaper and much bigger than EX pads (expect to pay an extra $20 for smaller EX pads).

5. Now we get to master cylinders. If your using NON ABS EX/Del Sol VTEC calipers on a non ABS application, you are supposed to use a 7/8" master cylinder (thats what honda uses). You can use the master cylinder from either a 93-95 NON ABS Civic EX coupe, or a 94 NON ABS Del sol VTEC, and they will bolt right onto your existing brake booster and hard lines (no worries).

If your using ABS Civic or any Integra caliper on a NON ABS application, you are supposed to use a 15/16" master cylinder (thats what honda did). You can use the master cylinder from a 91 Civic EX 4dr, and it will bolt right onto your existing brake booster and harnd lines (no worries)

I suggest you sell your 1" MC/BB and purchase a new master cylinder from HondaAutomotiveParts.com or SLHondaParts.com for $140. You won't regret it, since it will be a painless "bolt-on" process...

Default Re: GSR brakes on my Civic DX intelligent questions (94eg!)

up-date:

i went ahead and did the swap today. besides having to switch trailing arms with a DX due to a bent arm the seller neglected to mention, everything went smooth...

I stayed with what i had, the ABS integra MC/BB. Yes, i did have to cut, bend, and re-flair my lines to use the ABS GSR MC. It wasnt all that bad... not too sure if its sealed completely yet or not... might have to do it over...

Found out an interesting thing when trying to switch from my EX brakes to the GSR front brakes.. I wanted to just use the entire front assembly and bolt it on....
WRONG! the splines for the ABS axles were too small... so... i just switched over the brake calipers and rotors from the GSR's to my Civic Hub. I used the Civic EX brake pads, (seemed to fit A OK) because they were much newer.

The rears were cake. Except for the one bent trailing arm.... you wouldnt belive how hard it is to switch just the trailing arms over. in all I used a grinder, Hammers, screwdrivers, torx sockets, punches, drill bits, vise grips, and finally a damned cutting torch to get the **** done... future note to those having to do it. Have the right tools, and a compressor that is worth a ****.

Comparing the first setup, with the new GSR brakes .... there is no comparison.
Instead of the pedal sinking to the floor, and comming to an eventual stop... it feels like im hitting the firewall with my foot when i press on the pedal, damn thing is as stiff as a weddin' ****. I stop in HALF the distance... its very nice
