Default Question from New Vtec user

Hey i kno its my first vtec engine but by far not first Honda. So heres the scoop, i just got a 93 GSR with a B17 yesterday and i am swapping it into my CRX. Well the cars not registered but i just took it for a quick ride. Gettin to my question: is it possible for vtec to engage in 1st gear but not in any others because i couldnt go far due to no plate so i couldnt really find out for myslef but when i did crack it it kinda seemed like this was happening. I know for a Fact that its engaging in first but i wasnt really able to tell about any other gears. Thanks and sorry for a stupid question but i really need to know...

Get it registered, then drive it for a little more time, and let us know if it feels akward. If you're nervous about having no plates, and run it around the block using the seat of your pants to judge how it feels, you might mistakenly assume that VTEC is not engaging in other gears. It probably is just much more noticeable in first gear.

Were you letting the motor fall out of VTEC, or shifting at high RPM and expecting to feel or hear VTEC? Cause if you have no clue about VTEC then it would be apparent that you are expecting to notice the VTEC engagement at each gear shift. Well my friend if you take the motor to the redline and shift you will more likely keep the motor at a high enough RPM that VTEC stays on.
