Default 1991 CRX SI engine swaping a b18c5 type r

I'm new to this scene, and im very interested in swaping in a b18c5 DOHC VTEC type r engine into my stock CRX.

If I was to order the engine, what are all the parts I should look for to be included with the engine so I can swap? Do I need the tranny ETC? or what?

I'm no proffesional at this, though back when I was in highschool I took Auto and Disel for 4 years. I'm aiming for a daily drivable CRX that is pushing around 400-500 hp with Forced induction(more than likely Turbo)In the future id like to have an onboard labtop withen the car, to change psi/fuel management and vtech etc. Which would make it posible to have it as a daily driver by turning down the psi etc.

So what exactly Do I need to make the swap succesfull?

400-500 HP with turbos mate, Stock horse with no turbos would be around 200-300, which really is not all that much.

The engine over all would prolly cost about 10,000, I was thinking of ordering an engine mostly prebuilt from spoonersports with a warranty, but im not exactly sure if i want to do that Plus im not sure exactly what all i need to make the swap complete into my crx.

I was looking at Jegs today and i noticed Dart makes an all alumn block that can handle upwards up to 600 horse + turbos.

Anyways, anyone want to clue me in on what all i need to make this SWAP? I checked sites, Pretty much I guess I need The Engine,Tranny,Rear axle's and the ECU.

Im asking on here though to make sure that information is correct. So if anyone can help me, please do. What all do I need to swap the b18c5 dohc vtec type r into my crx?

Why dont you just buy a B16 and take the money you saved by buying that and buy your turbo.

You'll have to find a good engine builder who makes blocks made for 20lbs of boost for a living, not joe shmoe engine builder.. Check the sponsors section, there are several race-block manufacturers here.

http://www.rywire.com for the Si to B18c5 Wire harness conversion.
You'll have to run hondata or something even more powerful like the AEM system to tune that sucker.

If you've got $15,000 to spend great man, otherwise, stop dreaming.
Do it right, have a professional do the tune and don't use the turbo until the engine runs perfectly (timed and all) then only boost 5psi until you have it tuned by a reputable shop, dont do it yourself, you're a few years away from the knowledge it takes not to make that block explode at 20psi LOL\\

Oh and it will not be a daily driver at 400hp. A V8 can be a daily driver at 400hp, NOT a 4 cylinder.

I got about 18,000 to work with. I want the engine to push about 400-500 with turbos engaged, much less without turbos though. I want the engine to be reliable, and lasting.

Do you guys know some sites where they have prebuilt everything readyto be sent out? like engines etc?

Btw, the real question I have though is what parts do i need to make the swap? Engine/Tranny/Rear axles and ecu I assume, but im not sure - any help would be apreciated.

Nice site LSVTECJay.

BTW the rear axels is what one site said you need for a complete swap - other than that it beats me, considering its a FWD car.

Question? What is wrong with runing Turbos? They are the easiest way to increase hp/torque. Plus you cant go wrong with the sound they make(Turbo + blowoff), my fav engine sound in the whole wide world

Another reason why i want turbo's is because then I could make the engine atleast 300 HP NA, then kick on the turbo psi's for an upward of 400+ hp. This way i can make the car somewhat of a gas saver. kick the turbo psi's up then I got a pure racer. Hopefully you understand where im coming from. I'm also considering doing this conversion,

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/nc...r=361

Copy and paste that link. Its a link to the B18c alumn block.

Im curious though, what is wrong with adding forced induction Turbos?

ummmmmmmmmmmm.....yeah....

Turbo - 1 a.k.a ONE
U cant just activate turbos... you can adjust boost but not just turn it off.....
and turbo cars get better gas mileage....
What are you talking baout man....buy a B16 completely build it then turbo.....One step at a time.....

Right adjusting the boost is what I ment. Twin turbo's what I was aiming for btw, but that may change - depending on cost etc. Like I said about 18,000 is my limit.

Why do you sugest the b16?

Like my topic says im going with the b18c5 type r.
The added torque alone makes me quiver.
Unless I can find a B16b, I think the B18c5type r is the engine for me. some of you guys act like your againts the b18c5 type r, but why? That engine is awsome alone.

What's spoonersports btw... you mean the balenced blocks from Spoon Sports? They're built high comp for N/A applications... if you're looking for turbo don't turn to spoon.

The B18C5 is not necessarily the best option for a honda turbo motor. A B20Z out of a CRV is a very powerful motor to turbo if you have the money to blow on rebuilding. The B18C series, however, is also good... I'm just a budget run kinda guy and there's not much need to waste close to $4000 on the engine when it's going to have to be rebuilt anyway. Turbo + VTEC = Good but also equals headaches.

From the way you speak it seems you may be slightly in over your head if you want a 500hp turbo honda 4 banger. It's not as simple as turbocharging to push that level with these engines. They can handle it, most def, but you're looking at major internal overhaul.

If you're deadset on that Type R word, then go for the B18C swap and see how you like it. It's pretty intimidating in a CRX. You can always modify/turbo from there... and between aftermarket mounts, hydro conversion, and obd2a conversion you'll have enough on your hands anyways if you've never done a swap before.

Running a b18c5 is no biggie. I have one for my 89 crx. Using hasport mounts, a jdm ys1 tranny, car is converted to obd1, and uses a chipped p28 on uberdata. Most of the parts are the same as swapping an b16. You will need to get either a zc or sir style hood for clearance between the top of the engine and the hood itself.

make sure you get swap up and running, worry about the turbo's later.
after the sucsessfull swap, then you might have to save a little but all you need is 4 turbos, one for each axle. On the axles you should check out a few aftermarket axle companies that specialize in high hp apps, cause with all those turbos you might need the extra insurance.

in all seriousness...please do some searching before you ask ANY questions.

Just get a B18C1 and boost it. It already has lower comp. plus your just gonna end up tearing apart the B18C5 and replacing most of the internals. Otherwise you my friend have alot of research to do before you start dumping money into something you hardly know anything about.
