Tuning Tips from Motec
Tuning Tips from Motec
Motec is a premier engine management company. Their products, software and instructions are all top nocth.
From Motec:
ADJUSTMENT TIPS
The Fuel Main Table must be adjusted on a dyno to suit the engine. Use
extreme caution when adjusting to ensure that the engine does not run
lean at high loads.
An Air Fuel Ratio Meter is essential to ensure correct Air Fuel Ratio.
Note that the Air Fuel Ratio may be measured directly by the ECU if it
has the Lambda option. This also allows the 'Quick Lambda' feature to be
used which automatically adjusts the fuel table by comparing the measured
lambda to the desired Lambda in the Wide Band Lambda Table. To activate
Quick Lambda press the Q key. Note the Quick Lambda feature may also be
activated from the Ignition and Fuel Timing Screens.
The Air Fuel Ratio should be adjusted to suit the engine load and the
desired results, power, economy, emissions etc. At high loads the
mixture should be approx. 0.89 Lambda for maximum power, on turbo charged
engines a richer mixture may be required to reduce exhaust temperatures
or to avoid knocking eg. 0.85 Lambda or less. At lighter loads the mixture
may be adjusted for best emissions (1.00 Lambda) or best economy (1.05
Lambda).
Note * If the engine is missing for any reason (including over rich) the
Air Fuel Ratio may falsely read lean due to the oxygen in the
unburnt mixture.
Note * Cams with high overlap running at low speed can cause the Air Fuel
Ratio to falsely read lean due to extra air being passed through
the engine.
It is best to start rich to avoid engine damage.
End - Motec.
Please note the * items. That's why one does not tune blindly by a wideband.
