Som say yes some say no. i have a sir-II b16 and have seen 9800rpm's + numerous times. I shift at 9k at least twice a day and have driven like this for 15k problem free miles. I do however try and avoid high speed runs, like 9000 rpms for like 50-60 seconds. or trying to hit 135mph They may not hold doing something like that. But id say UPGRADE, I didnt cause i didnt feel like stripping the bottom end and had already waited for 13 weeks for my headwork. But had i had the block stripped already i would have definetly replaced the rod bolts.

i revved my cammed b16 to 9300rpms every friday for almost 15k miles. even went up to 9700 rpms....unintensionally though.

however, i would probably upgrade the rod bolts as well....bullet proof b16.

the rod bolts are the weakest link. it takes half an hour to put some arp on there. while you have the motor apart, why not??? it can onlly make things better, that is if you make sure and put **** back together correctly.

You have the motor apart already, so replace all the stuff you can afford to replace before you put it back together.

my arp's broke high comp ls/vtec, number 3 cylinder bolts busted. They were torqued and then stretched with an ARP stretch gauge to specs. i was revving at 9-9500. I'm rebuilding with another set of ARP's. I've only heard one other case of them breaking. I'd say if your going to have the bottom end apart, upgrade, if not, rev the **** outta it. I had cams/valvesprings in my old B16 and i was revving to 8800 nonstop with B16 rod bolts. Never had a problem.

stock are ok, i revved a stock bottom end b16a to 10k without a problem for over a year and a half, but if you have everything apart, arp are cheap insurance.

Ok, well the point was... To make power @ 10k, you need some huge cams. Why would you be running huge cams with stock bottom end. it doesnt make sense.

What do you think happens to that nice little protective layer of oil @ 10-12k rpm?
