Where to find a TAP for an O2 Sensor (M18 x 1.5) ???
Anyone know a good, reputable place to buy an O2 Sensor Tap from online?
I've had some kids show up for tuning sessions lately and either they didnt know they needed to have an O2 bung (:bang
, or the plug is seized inside the bung, or their O2 sensor have been removed 50k times and the threads end up screwing up my O2 sensor which renders is useless...
Well I'm sick of that so I may just start drilling and taping a hole in their exhaust to allviate these problems.
Any help, links or direction is appreciated.
You other weekend warrior tuners out there...do you find the same thing happens a lot with your customers?
Also, I believe the size of the tap is M18x1.5, I am correct right? I have also heard that this size is the same for Spark Plugs right?

I picked one up at a hardware and fastener supplier, CopperState Nut and Bolt. They carry a whole line of taps and dies and such. If you can't find something local, I can send you one.

I haven't had too many problems with it, the only problem I have ever had was one that wasn't big enough to fit the tip in. ALl that needs is a little dremmel work. I have never had one that was stripped. I guess I have just been lucky or something. And when you mean tap, do you just mean the bung? If so I got like 5 of them from napa for $2 each. But it would be a good idea to get a tap, like you are saying with people messing up the threads.
No I definitely need the tap John...and Craig, if I cant find something local, I will be hitting you up. Thanks!
Up for anymore online sites so I dont have to go on a local wild goose chase

i could see getting a tap to chase the treads on the o2 sensors you can get out, to clean the hole up for your wideband, but drilling a hole into the exhaust, and then tapping it? You could easily just buy a bungs and weld it onto the testpipe/cat. But im guessing you prolly dont have welder? If your wanting to drill and tap? i just dont see a good seal coming from it.
I run into the same thing. So many peoples threads are messed up and I have lost the first thread off my wideband becasue of it. A cheap source for that tap would be sweet because Im sure one that big is $$
Edit...found this one place so far $27-40 with a few options.http://www.e-taps.com/ofertapage%20002.htm
Spark plug chaser on ebay $9 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...photo
flat bottom taps for $6. probably be good for chasing threads but not cutting them without a tapered starter tap, but im not sure since ive never used a flat bottom one.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...photo

I've also got a local hardware store I can call for you. The latest tap that I bought was a M14x1.5 for the oil drain plugs. It was $7.xx. A M18x1.5 tap is gonna be huge. You'll probably need a new turning thingy (technical term here in Indiana) since the mandrel will be too fat to fit into regular-sized ones...or just turn it with an open-end wrench.
