Default help with what clutch to put in my car....

I've got an 88 CRX SI with original transmission and a D15b Swap. My engine and tranny are going to be pulled from the car later this week and want to upgrade the clutch and flywheel. What clutch and flywheel should I be getting? I am thinking stage I or II with lightweight flywheeel but my true question is do I put the kit for an 88 in there (which I have had a little difficulty finding) or upgrade to the 90-91 compatible clutch kit. Could I even go as far as going with the D15 Clutch kit? Any help would be much appreciated.

Stick with the '88 clutch kit for the car, if you're keeping the '88 Si transmission in it.

There ARE ways to upgrade to the '90-'91-style clutches, but it involves a new flywheel, a Prelude clutch disk of some sort ('87 Si, maybe?) that's 21-splines (like your '88 tranny's input shaft) AND 212mm (like the '90-'91 flywheel surfaces)...

Easier route is just to do the '88 clutch kit and call it good. Honestly, just swapping in a d15b isn't a good enough reason to *need* to upgrade to a stage I or II, or to really need the bigger flywheel & disk, in my opinion. Stock Daiking (Exedy) units are good for 20% more torque than the stock D16a6 produces, so an Exedy unit should be just fine for you - and dirt cheap, at around $115 shipped.

My $ 0.02. Your results may vary.

thanks for the info. I am cool with a stock clutch but I would really like a lightweight flywheel. It seems that I would have to upgrade to a 212mm clutch to do so. This would be the 90-91 CRX clutch. If I get an upgrade clutch, do you know if I will need anything else besides the upgrade clutch and the lightweight flywheel?

I thought that if you upgraded to a clutch/flywheel other than 88, then you need a tranny other than 88 also.... Can anyone confirm this?

My clutch went out last friday and I ordered my exedy one from ebay. Already got it tuesday!! fast (priority shipping tho) $121.34 The 88 clutch is the same for STD/DX/SI, so for my STD is more than enough I'll let you guys know how it goes...

If all you want is a lighter flywheel...dont know how light you want but..the 86-87 Integra (D16A1) flywheel is lighter than your stock '88 one and is 190mm in surface area.

if u wan to put the 90-91 clutch u will have to get a 90-91 trans b/c ur trans has dif splines as all the new tranny's. so u are either stuck with the 88 or buy a new trans from a 90-91.

Correct exept that 89, 90 and 91 are the same. 88 is the different one.
