Default Autocross-worthy Suspension Set-up

Hey guys..
Friend of my dad's wants to sponsor me, he said he'd do a b18c5 swap in my GSR, brand new suspension, wheels, tires, anything i need.

I already know what i want for wheels/tires but suspension im stuck - i was going to settle with some cheap skunk2 or omnipower adjustable coilovers but i highly doubt they'd do the job for autocross. Any suggestions? - as of right now price is not an object.

Oh and 1 more thing - he's got the hook-up from japan, so overnighting some parts from japan are no problem

Definitely get some kind of Tein, Tanabe, or Apex'i coilovers.

Well if that's the case I'd spare no expense, this is what I personally would do for an autocross setup:

Ohlins PCV coilovers 11k front 13k rear
Omnipower front and rear camber adjustment kits
ITR rear lower control arms and rear subframe (yes you can buy the subframe)
Mugen 26mm rear sway bar and ITR lower tie bar
15x7 Volk TE-37 with 225/45/15 Avon Tech R tires up front
15x6 Volk TE-37 with 205/50/15 Avon Tech R tires in the back
5 lug conversion with Cobalt VR brake pads and stainless lines

Get some Tein full coilover setup going on. And get the Tein EDFC (Electronic Damper Force Controller) so you can change the struts while driving.

You are going to have to switch over some parts for ITR parts to make it all work.

But if money is no object, switch over to the ITR suspension with brakes while your at it.

And don't go with just an adjustable coilover sleeve, go for the full tein setup most definetely.

Edit: ^^^ Holy crud. I like that one better.

Have you looked at the classes and decided which one to run in?
Take a look in the AutoX/Road Racing forum to see what people are having success with. From the reviews that I have read, Koni Yellows/Ground Controls seem to be a solid route to go.

have you run auto-x before, if so, was it SoloII or some small club?

go to the scca website, and read up on what class you want to be in, cause if you're going to do all that to your car...my guess is you'll be in a class where your *** will be handed to you by cars that are even more highly modified with more experienced drivers.
This is not to discourage you, just to let you know, from what I've seen (I haven't seen much yet) auto-x has less to do with the equipment on your car, and more to do with the driver.
I went my first time out with a stock teg with all season tires.

Good Luck, you'll love it no matter what your setup is

that sounds like a very nice setup...is this what you run, and in what class?

As of right now its only small races, im climbing the ranks as i go along. The guy who wants to be a co-driver with me has a miata that kills 90% of what its against, c6 vettes, porsches, new GTOs in the local races. Competition isn't that tough locally, a friend of mine bought a 95 miata for 3 grand, had like 17 inch wheels and an OK suspension - he got 2nd in a local autocross his first time ever in auto x.

The guy who is sponsoring me also placed 2nd in a big race (sorry i forgot what it was). So im learning from one of the best - he said he just needs a honda out on the track

I think Kendall covered the Big money set-up. But if you do run into a budget issue i would suggest looking into Ground Controls. They use the eibach springs and after i saw the eibach factory i was very impressed, Eibach will be the only spring I will buy for a long time. Also eibach(spc) selss a upper A arm for the front camber. I have seen them in person and they are very nice. The biggest selling point for me was that there is a bolt that moves the ball joint to adjust the camber. The Omni and Skunk are nice but they have had a slipping issue in the past (this might be sloved by now) and if you make a camber change there is no way of knowing you got it close with out a rack. At lest with the Eibach arms you could have you camber set on a rack and them make equal adjustments on each side by turning the bolt. I wish i could find a picture of it, but once i saw the design it made total sense to me!!

I used to run a very similar setup in SM.

The nice thing about the Ground Controls are you can change out the spring rates as you want. The EDFC for autocrossing is totally worthless. You won't have time to do **** but drive.

Koni yellows and ground controls. they might not be as expensive as some of the full coilover setups but they definitely get the job done. if money really isn't a factor, get the konis revalved. check the autox/road racing forum and search around a little bit.
